BRUNSWICK CORPORATION, Lake Forest, IL 2007-2009 World’s largest manufacturer of pleasure boats, Mercury engines, Bowling and Billiards, and Life Fitness equipment with manufacturing and warehousing operations throughout the United States and the world.
Director of Risk Management (2007- 2009) Directed all Risk Management functions, reporting to the VP and Treasurer, including placement of property and casualty programs executive risk coverage, international insurance, stock through put, and the boats-a-float plans. Responsible for the Bermuda captive and was on the Board of Directors of United Insurance Company of the Cayman Islands, an international re-insurer of which Brunswick is an owner.
Placed a worldwide Credit Insurance Program combining fragmented pieces into one program. Saved over $1 million on each of the property/casualty renewals in 2008 and 2009 in a depressed insurance market seeking rate increases. Arranged unique premium financing options for significant cash flow savings after credit rating agency downgrades of the company. Placed professional errors and omissions coverage for Brunswick Acceptance Corporation and customer financing arms of the business to protect boat financing efforts. Administered SOX 404 reporting on six Risk Management categories quarterly as part of over all corporate compliance requirements.
THE SERVICEMASTER COMPANY, Downers Grove, IL 1977 – 2006 Major consumer services and franchising company, parent of ServiceMaster Clean, Terminix, TruGreen ChemLawn, TruGreen LandCare, Instar, Merry Maids, American Home Shield, Amerispec, Furniture Medic, American Mechanical Services, American Residential Services/Rescue Rooter, and ServiceMaster Management Services.
Vice President Risk Management (1987 – 2006) Directed all risk identification, analysis and insurance purchases for nine distinct business units each with their own unique profiles with a combined cost of risk of over $100 million. Contributed to the Enterprise Risk Management process by working with the various business disciplines on an ongoing basis.
Saved $28 million over a nine year period by placing multi-year programs with stable deductibles in a time of rising prices and higher deductible pressures. Placed a manuscripted comprehensive casualty insurance program by negotiating terms and conditions with brokers and carriers for a 40,000 employee workforce with 24,000 vehicles in all 50 states and several foreign countries. Assured management of no hidden liabilities by providing risk exposure evaluations of all potential acquisitions and divestitures prior to closing as a contributor of the mergers and acquisitions team.
Accelerated the deductibility of claim reserves and combined all insured risks by establishing a Vermont captive insurance company capitalized by over $600 million. Served on the Board of Directors. Identified insurance program stability and spread of risk by placing coverage in both the U.S. and international insurance marketplaces. Insured franchisee insurance compliance and uniformity to license agreements by establishing a comprehensive casualty insurance product for purchase which includes specific mold coverage. Designed an aviation insurance coverage program in a difficult U.S. and European marketplace which aided the launch of an aviation ground handler service to the airlines with revenues of $100 million. Avoided unforeseen adverse reserve adjustments by active participation in quarterly actuarial reviews with each business unit.
Vice President of Risk Management and Administrative Services (1985 – 1987) Responsible for all risk management functions along with corporate real estate, word processing, corporate communications, building, grounds and security. Managed two departments with over 25 people.
Assistant Vice President of Risk Management, Safety and Security (1977 – 1985) Provided all Risk Management functions for the contract management services company serving approximately 2,500 hospitals, schools, long-term care, industrial facilities and home cleaning franchises.
