Provided financial planning & analysis including development of comprehensive pro-forma financial statements in support of raising $6 million in venture capital.

- Led $5 million project to develop web-based privacy solution for Capital One Financial Services (a ‘top 10’ US bankcard issuer) and Mail Boxes Etc. (the world’s largest franchisor of retail post offices.) Liased with senior management of business partners to forge consensus on business requirements and coordinate development programs. Directed development of functional and technical requirements. Negotiated $900k in agreements with vendors of hosting and consulting services. Managed the overall development program. Resulting launch earned the highest marks ever in Capital One’s vendor compliance review process.

- Spearheaded launch of network administration and security business resulting in $600k revenue the first year. Prepared strategic plan that was approved by the board of directors. Directed product planning and development of functional and technical specifications. Developed marketing plan. Established VAR and direct sales channels. Played instrumental role in developing marketing communications materials and preparing the sales-force training program.

- Through networking and employee referrals, built NameSafe’s engineering and operations groups from 1 to 15 full-time employees in three months on a tight budget (spent less than $100k for recruiting).

UBS Warburg is the investment banking arm of UBS AG, a $700 billion global financial services firm. Recruited into the Operations Program Management Group of SBC Warburg Dillon Read (a predecessor of UBS Warburg) to improve cross-functional coordination between line and IT functions and seed a more professional management culture.

- Led turn-around of business critical program to prepare for the European Monetary Union (EMU). The program extended to six business areas and required developing processes, modifying core-processing systems and establishing controls for a 72-hour conversion involving nearly 100 staff. Reorganized program into five product and two functional work-streams. Clarified roles and responsibilities. Revamped project monitoring and control processes. Managed program through a flawless on-time conversion of over $600 billion in positions and transactions.

- Managed $11 million project portfolio (25+ ongoing projects at any one time.) Revamped management processes and implemented standardized project methodology. Improved teamwork and cross-functional coordination by facilitating greater involvement by line managers in directing development agendas. Resulted in a substantial improvement in the project success rate from under 20% (roughly) to over 75% and a reduction in program office staff from 3 to 1 FTE.

- Led fiscal 2000 financial planning cycle. Designed and implemented budgeting processes. Negotiated cost reductions with line management. Directed project to rationalize utilization of computer services. Resulted in an $85 million budget that represented an 8% cost reduction while allowing for 10% growth in transaction volumes. Actual experience was an 11% cost reduction on flat volumes.

’99 Director - Regional Head Performance Management & Control. Headed financial planning & analysis (FP&A) and project management for the Americas Operations group (600 staff). Managed five-person professional staff.

- Evaluated the market opportunity for a $40 billion California bank to provide item processing services to other financial institutions. Assessed competitive position, defined services menu, established pricing guidelines, developed operational cost model, and determined internal cost-to-provide. Presented recommendations to senior management. Resulted in the successful launch of a new service line that is expected to generate between $10 and $20 million in annual revenues.

- Assisted clients in successfully concluding item processing and systems services outsourcing agreements ranging in value from $35 million to $400 million. Conducted feasibility assessments, authored RFIs and RFPs, developed financial models to evaluate vendor proposals, and supported contract negotiations. Achieved savings ranging from 15% to 25%.

- Evaluated Internet payment mechanisms for a joint venture between three Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs). Developed model to forecast consumer and merchant adoption based on a broad spectrum of factors including ease-of-use, infrastructure requirements, security and non-repudiation. Subsequently authored article on Internet payments and was invited to speak on that subject at several conferences including the Government, Education and Business Tech Expo in Los Angeles.

- Developed the operations model for the successful launch of a new money transfer service being developed by a major Mexican bank in conjunction with the US Postal Service. The scope of the study extended to point-of-sale, FX funding, funds dispersal, and customer service.
