Professional Experience ConAgra Foods, Inc., Schaumburg, IL August 2002 September 2006 Director, International Logistics and Regulatory Trade Compliance Recruited by ConAgra to centralize and strengthen the global transportation and trade compliance activities. Position scope expanded to include and manage and improve upstream supply chain activities. Built and led a department with 3 direct and 5 indirect reports with responsibilities in procurement, trade compliance, and logistics execution. Negotiated and managed transportation, warehouse, and other service agreements totaling $80mm. Direct oversight of $700mm International Retail Divisions logistics and supply-chain activities, with enterprise-wide responsibilities in transportation contract negotiations and regulatory trade compliance activities for imports and exports.
Led projects that identified and implemented standard processes to achieve $16.2 mm in identifiable savings/cost avoidance/revenue increases in FY 2006 alone in the following areas: supply-chain processes, Incoterms, cost-to-serve financials, forecasting, order fulfillment, SAP, Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) enhancements, and improved procurement practices. The majority of these financial improvements were from the International Retail Division. Created strategy, then transformed the department from an ocean transportation procurement function into a team with logistics execution, warehouse, Third Party Logistics Providers (3PLs) & vendor management, air freight, and enterprise-wide regulatory compliance responsibilities. Key member on Sr. Management international outsourcing teams. Evaluated international logistics and regulatory impacts and recommended course of action for multiple international outsourcing projects. Co-led the consolidation of six customer service and logistics offices into two. Created and executed standardized supply chain processes, reduced the freight forwarder base from 14 to one, and developed KPI (Key Performance Indicator) dashboards. The project created cost savings, improved order fill rates and quality, reduced quarter-end unshipped orders (increasing revenue by $10+mm p.a.), and created a simplified and scaleable Customer Service/Logistics platform. Established a regulatory trade compliance department, consolidated the customhouse broker base from over 100 to 15, created company-specific import and export compliance manuals, and trained relevant personnel across the organization. This reduced the risk of Customs non-compliance penalties enterprise-wide and saved $630K p.a. in broker expenses and improved duty drawback processes. Responsible for enterprise-wide ocean procurement, carrier, and SOX compliant contract management of over 50,000 TEUs of import and export containers spread over 1,500 international and Jones Act routes, including Asia, Central & South America, Caribbean, Mid-East, and Europe. Reduced the carrier base from 40 to 10 and streamlined the procurement process and achieved 16% freight savings/cost avoidance in 2006.
