INSIGNIA SOLUTIONS, PLC, Fremont, CA; High Wycombe, England 1996 to 2003, 2005, 2006
President / CEO, 1997 to 2003; Board Director, 1997 to 2006 Chief Financial Officer, 1996 and 2005 (Interim)
Originally joined Insignia as CFO in 1996 to restore relations with Wall Street. Following identification of questionable prior accounting practices, promoted to CEO in early 1997 to reposition this faltering public company and provide fresh vision and direction for new markets. My solid industry reputation as a trustworthy and knowledgeable expert preceded the events that I inherited from prior management as I led the company through an SEC investigation (with no penalties) and negotiated settlement of a shareholder lawsuit. Within the next few years, we downsized and sold off stale product lines to provide funding for new technologies. Returned the company to a culture of integrity and respect while building the company into the market leader for Java for smart devices and resource constrained products. While headquarters were in California, the company was British and more than two thirds of the employees were located in England. Held concurrent duties as a Board Director and Audit Committee member.
* During tenure, built and sold three divisions – SoftWindows, Ntrigue, and Jeode and built a Java Virtual Machine business partnering with Sun Microsystems.
