Director of New Product Design and Development
Led an engineering department of 16 mechanical and electrical engineers in the development of diverse new products in multiple markets. Products included medical oxygen equipment, aerospace flight controls, cryogenic storage vehicles and emergency respiratory devices. Implemented an all new stage gate process to bring improved quality and consistency to product development activities. Participated in high level strategy development and planning.

V-Engine Product Development Process Coordinator  5 years
Overhauled the design process Ford uses to develop new automotive engines from concept readiness through production launch. This phase gate process is used by over 1000 Ford team members to determine program health for all new engine programs. It includes deliverables and metrics used to escalate program issues at periodic management design reviews. Directed programmers to create checkpoint review software to evaluate status to this process. This effort involved collaboration with stake holders ranging from marketing to engine test and finance to design. Established buy in from all groups up front and coached users to ensure adoption of this process at its launch.

Diesel Systems Engineer  3 years
Provided interface between engine component engineers in the UK and vehicle engineers in the US for an engine program involving several hundred employees. Directed packaging studies to install a new diesel engine in an existing truck package. Coordinated engine cooling system and induction system design efforts. This program required extensive revision to both vehicle and power train including turbo charger packaging, new engine controls and tier IV emissions compliance.

Led the efforts of engine component team leaders to achieve overall targets for new 4.6L engine applications. Assigned quality, cost, reliability and functional objectives to all subsystem teams and worked with them to perform trade off analyses and resolve issues. Directed packaging efforts and interfaced with customer vehicle team.

Designed new intake manifolds for car and truck engines resulting in best in class engine torque and fuel economy. Directed efforts of drafting department to create drawings and CAD models. Created design verification plans and evaluated test results. Worked closely with manufacturing suppliers to ensure consistent quality and durability. Awarded patent for internal EGR system (5490488).

Design Engineer
Designed components for military and commercial jet engines. Performed finite element analyses to estimate heat transfer, vibration and stress levels in compressor and combustor cases. Established accumulated fatigue limits for same. Awarded patent for fighter engine borescope plug (5115636).
