Director, Global Chemistry R & D

Company is a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of analytical instruments, test kits and reagents for testing the quality of water, aqueous solutions and air. Products are designed specifically for quality, accuracy, and simplicity.  Their goal for the future is to continue to provide customers with reliable instrumentation, accurately prepared reagents, proven methods, simplified procedures and outstanding technical support in order to ensure water quality for people around the world. The company makes water analysis better  faster, simpler, greener and more informative. The environment is team-centered, customer-driven, quality-focused, and growth-oriented. 

Purpose of Position: 

Company is seeking a Global leader who will oversee the Chemistry function of a $1 B+ organization with a reputation for being best in class. Primary areas of responsibility include new product development, product sustainment,  and compliance functions. In this role, you will work with a team of world class professionals in a global, cross functional. It is expected this role will grow and develop a dedicated team of experts in four different sites located in the US and Germany.  



Essential Functions:

-Manage a team of professionals across 3 different functional areas to include professional development as well as succession planning.
    - Assume responsibility and accountability for meeting product development requirements, fulfilling product definition, meeting product and project cost goals, quality objectives, and time-to-market objectives.
    - Oversee the chemical compliance function ensuring that company is able to ship internationally and is compliant with GHS regulations.
    - Oversee the sustainment efforts of existing product portfolio, working closely with the product managers and operations staff.
-Responsible for the implementation of technical/scientific research efforts within the organization.
-Develop and foster contacts with external partners, technical experts, Universities, Research centers, and regulatory agencies.
-Obtain and assign human and financial/capital resource requirements to ensure successful projects.
-Work with senior leaders to develop and administer annual operating and capital budgets.
-Develop, and ultimately implement strategic activities to improve the new product development process.
-Maintain and improve the Quality System requirements. Adhere to quality system requirements in the development of new products.
-Creation and implementation of technology strategy for the advancement of the vitality Index.

-Education, Background and Skill Requirements

- PhD in Chemistry.  Preference for inorganic chemistry.  Experience in the Water Quality industry is a plus.
-MS, MA, or MBA in business, marketing, or technology management is a plus.
-10 or more years in a product research, development, engineering, or manufacturing environment including synthesis and formulation
-At least 2 years of close involvement with product research and development management, supervising staff.
-FDA experience required.
-Ability to travel domestic and international up to 40%
-Charismatic leader

-Ability to interface with the engineering team/leads
-Ability to interface between chemistry and engineering on a technical level
-Extremely process oriented with a working knowledge of phase-gate new product development processes.
-Ability to utilize commonly accepted project management tools to assist in the development of, and adherence to a project schedule.
-Knowledge of effective team building approaches, and team dynamics. Capable of adapting to change and building a strong culture. 
-Continuous improvement mindset.  Ability to think outside the box to drive future growth.
-Customer focus 
-Results orientation in meeting project objectives
-Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage many tasks/projects simultaneously.
-Sense of urgency and objectivity in solving problems
