Directory of businesses for B2B advertising. Also excellent for finding people in business. Add business category to your initial search results to refine.

The #1 traditional search engine provides a separate facility that searches blogs. Don't overlook this important resource.

Works only if you input name plus city and state. However, provides Neighbors on same street and a Map. Claims to search in most foreign countries, but not without name, city/province.

Very efficient White Pages and Yellow Pages Search.

  MSN City Guide
Besides White Pages search, displays location on a map. Will map highway route to destination at no charge.

  AOL White Pages
Fast search, provides name, address, phone number, and map, all for free. Map is very nicely zoomable.

  AnyWho (at&t Directory Assistance)
Fine White Pages lookup. Outstanding map function. However, will not search unless you input state.

  Netscape White Pages
Says "Powered by InfoSpace." Yet it doesn't always return the answer that comes up on InfoSpace directly. Hmmmmm...

Disappointed me on several trys. But you'll be looking for different people. Give it a shot.

Infospace powers several other sites. Here you'll enter Infospace directly, and find it dispensing fully as much free info as on any of the sites it powers. Note the excellent map.

Very widely used search site to find Canadians. Excellent for this specialty. Input city and province.

  411.COM
Powered by U.S.Search. Provides free of charge basic info that U.S.Search would charge for if entered directly. Variety of paid services.

  People Finders
NOTE: Yields only location free. Pay to get phone number and other upgrades. Does not say it's "powered by" another site, but appearance resembles others.

  Pandia People Search
Pandia will surprise you with the many sources from which it returns answers to your inquiry, ranging from the obvious like Google and Yahoo to others that are quite obscure and specialized. Impressive!

  Search.com
Search.com searches Google, Ask.com, LookSmart and lots of other search engines and individual sites. Fast and efficient. Definitely one you should try.

  Dogpile
One of the earliest and still one of the very best metasearch engines. Says it searches Google, YahooSearch, MSNLiveSearch, and Ask.com. However, it returns answers from many other resources as well. You will like it.

  WebCrawler
Another of the earliest metasearch engines. Calls itself "The Web's Top Search Engines Spun Together." Unlike the other metasites, WebCrawler does not state its source sites.

  Clusty
Clusty will surprise you with the wide variety of sites from which it pulls results. Definitely should be consulted.

  Mamma
Excellent metasearch engine. Brings forward results from a wide variety of other search engines and specialized sites. Highly recommended.

  Google
The Swiss Army Knife of search engines. Just about everyone wisely turns first to Google for a Web search on virtually any subject. Usually outperforms the business specialist sites in their specialties.

  YAHOO!
Here we've chosen the basic Yahoo!, even though they offer a specialized "People Search." That's because the basic has outperformed the specialty every time we've tried.

  US SEARCH
You must PAY to use, so try FREE sites first. Here you can choose Background Check (incl. search by Social Security No. or Maiden Name). Also Criminal and Real Estate records.

An excellent search engine oriented primarily toward business searches. It's free, identifies lots of people, and covers a wide range of other business-oriented topics. Powered by Google. Use it for general research.

  ZabaSearch
Performs impressively on some people, not on others. For some, gives only phone and refers you to paid service for address. On others provides both phone and address free. (Note: Knowing phone, you can get address free from another site.)

  WhoWhere (Lycos)
WhoWhere is the people-lookup of the long-established Lycos Search engine. Inconsistent. Gives info free on some people and directs you to a paid service to reveal info on others who are equally or more prominent.

  Social Security Death Index
We certainly hope your person hasn't passed. But that possibility exists. This site will inform you of the fact.

  Birth Date Database
Interesting site that claims 120 million names and birthdates gathered from public records. NOTE: Spotty performance. Gives city but not address or phone info.

  pipl
pipl claims to search the "deep web" ... entering databases of personal profiles, membership lists, public records, scientific data and document libraries, blogs etc. that robots crawling the "surface web" for Google, Yahoo and the others do not reach. Performance is very impressive.

  Spock
This membership site searches for anyone, even nonmembers. You get slight info on nonmembers -- probably just a city -- but you can post comments about the person, as others can also. For people who like to talk about themselves, celebs, friends and enemies. A teen toy, but it does do nationwide searches.

  Wink
Wink finds people in social networks including MySpace, LinkedIn, Friendster, Bebo, and many others. Very impressive coverage of a fast-growing universe.

  Google Blog Search
