• Implemented an effective pricing system and analytical data warehouse that generated a 41% ROI on a $90M multi-year program. New products improved margin on $15B business. Restructured program and vendors to deliver the platform that had been struggling for several years prior to my leadership.

• Led a multi-year technology program for a new Self-Funding insurance product line that resulted in reducing the IT budget by 50% from $60M to $30M while accelerating development by one full year. Successfully organized program leadership teams, structured work, and directly assisted in business case creation.

SONIM TECHNOLOGIES, San Mateo, CA 2003-2005

Sonim was an early stage startup that developed specialized software for mobile phones that enabled wireless VoIP. Managed a multi-national, multi-location organization of 60 individuals from Product Management, Engineering, and Services. Led competitive analysis, MRD/PRD, and RFx efforts for several products.

• Built a high-performing product development organization that created the first OMA standard wireless VoIP products for mobiles resulting in over $3M in revenue. Restructured work, implemented rock-solid methodologies coupled with extensive partnership management with Ericsson and Motorola to turn around teams. • Established an efficient offshore product development center in India that saved over $2.4M annually to support company’s long-term strategy. Acquired a mobile product company, effectively staffed a 50-person engineering team, moved product development offshore, and successfully beat schedule by 30 days on the 6-month project.

VODAFONE, Walnut Creek, CA 2000-2003
Senior Manager, Software Engineering
Vodafone is one of the world’s largest mobile carriers. Was a key manager that founded a new mobile product unit, growing the product development team from 8 to over 200 persons.

• Designed and built an innovative unified messaging platform for mobile and web. Proposed product to meet the customer challenge for a messaging platform that scaled to millions of users that was cost effective for carriers. Became a platform differentiator that led directly to wins against competitors resulting in over $16M in product and services revenue.

• Successfully turned around commercial product teams twice resulting in over $8M in product and services revenue during a time of restructuring for the company. Focused on customer needs, setting stretch goals for the team, and most importantly, rolled up my sleeves and worked along side teams demonstrating leadership.

• Implemented an innovative professional services practice for carrier platforms that consistently resulted in 50% margin for carrier customers in Germany, Sweden, Egypt, Romania, and US. Scaled carrier implementations from 1 to 4 simultaneous implementations while maintaining staff levels.

• Successfully developed a multi-language intranet web 2.0 application used by over 80,000 users worldwide. Turned around the struggling program, ultimately resulting in internal customers accepting the platform and funding $2M of additional work. Effectively managed teams in Germany, Spain, and the US to successfully complete.



VERIZON WIRELESS (AIRTOUCH), Walnut Creek, CA 1997-2000

Managed an $11M investment budget for a new enterprise wide Customer Marketing and Pricing initiative. Led development teams in 4 locations in the US augmented by 30-60 consultants.

• Designed and implemented an innovative multi-terabyte Customer Marketing System that improved direct mail campaign take-rates over 50% coupled with “touch point integration” for cross-sell/up-sell.

• Successfully implemented segmentation, cluster analysis, and behavior analysis (predictive modeling) for a 360-degree customer view. System enabled customer profitability (LTV) analysis resulting in new pricing plans that generated a first year ROI of 27%.



NEXTEL COMMUNICATIONS, Oakland, CA 1994-1997
Senior Manager, Enterprise Data Warehouse & Marketing Systems
Served as one of the key managers that founded the IT group, growing it to over 400. Started the enterprise data warehousing and national commissions initiatives from problem identification through successful implementations with full P&L responsibility. Senior Engineering Manager
Was a key engineering manager with the Unix software company from startup through successful IPO. Held numerous engineering and IT roles.
