Upstream Manager, Hamaca Project 2001-Present
Upon the merger of Chevron and Texaco, I was given the responsibility of managing the Upstream portion of a multi-billion dollar, 190,000 barrels-per-day integrated heavy oil joint venture in Venezuela.
• Responsible for the on-time and on-budget completion of the project despite the volatile political and economic situation of the country. Serving on Operating, Tender and Technical committees.
• Development of a new opportunity to duplicate the Hamaca project and capture related cost saving synergies. Currently spearheading a multidiscipline joint-partner team evaluating an integrated approach for expanding the Hamaca project, including enhanced oil production (50 billion barrels of oil in-situ), transportation, upgrading and / or refining, and integration of a power generation project. Involves significant negotiations with Venezuela’s National oil company.

Texaco
Positions of increasing responsibility include:
Vice President & Business Manager, Caracas, Venezuela 1996-2001
Following Upper Management acceptance of my strategy for building a new Core Business in Venezuela, I was promoted to this position to open a new office in Caracas and evaluate new business opportunities.
• Hamaca Project: Led the successful identification, equity acquisition and development of this $3.5 billion, 190,000 barrels-per-day heavy oil production and upgrading venture. Served as Company representative on Operating, Tender and Technical oversight committees. Received the ‘Texaco Star Ambassador’ award in 1997 for outstanding achievement.
• Caracas Office Management: Planned, budgeted and opened a new office for the Company. Responsible for planning and administration duties ($1.7 MM budget), including management of National staff, Human Resource, Social Programs and EH&S responsibilities. Served as Legal Representative.
• Argentina/Brazil Evaluations: Team Leader for new opportunity evaluations ($1.0 MM budget for 2001). Appraisal of opportunities for entry into the “Southern-Cone” integrated gas business to acquire gas reserves in Argentina and supply markets in Brazil and Chile.
• Additional responsibilities:
- Government and partner relations, contract negotiations, competitor analysis.
- Political and economic country analysis.
- In-country assistance for Gasification and Gas-To-Liquids joint feasibility study efforts.
- Evaluations of Venezuela’s Marginal Fields, Oil, and Gas Exploration public bid rounds.
- Member of the Board of Directors for “Operation Smile”, Caracas, Venezuela
- Liaison for Career Development, University of Simon Bolivar, Caracas, Venezuela

Coordinator, New Business Development, Coral Gables, FL 1991-1996
Upon repatriation from Argentina I was charged with the investigation of new business opportunities in Latin America and West Africa. While in this position I received Texaco Outstanding Contributor awards in 1995 and 1996. Achievements in this position include:
• Venezuela: Developed country-entry strategy, including technical, contractual, economic and political evaluations.
• Paraguay: Personally led a successful effort to obtain outside investors to drill two exploratory wells in a high-risk play in Paraguay at no cost to Company ($2 million savings).
• Bolivia & Peru: Evaluated opportunities resulting from the privatizations of State oil companies.
• Southern Cone: Performed an analysis of gas supply, transport and market opportunities in the “Southern-Cone” of Latin America. Developed an integrated strategy for consideration by Upper Management.
• Appraised a variety of oil and gas opportunities on and offshore Trinidad, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Nigeria, Angola, Algeria, Tunisia and Namibia.
• Served on Graduate Student Advisory Committee, University of Miami, 1995-1996
• Member of “Leadership of Miami”, Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Senior Geologist, Buenos Aires, Argentina 1988-1991
Promoted to this position to coordinate the establishment of a new office, evaluate new business opportunities and manage participation in exploration bid rounds. Served as the Assistant to the General Manager and represented the Company in Government and Partner negotiations. Accomplishments in this position included:
• Successful participation in exploration bid rounds. Supervised a $15 million seismic and drilling program in four blocks. Conducted numerous evaluations of producing and non-producing properties for possible acquisition.
• Evaluated and acquired an exploration block in southern Chile which resulted in a commercial oil discovery.

Exploration Geologist, Coral Gables, FL 1984-1988
Promoted to this position in international operations following Texaco’s purchase of Getty Oil. While in this position I successfully:
• Developed a strategy for entry in Argentina which was approved by Upper Management.
• Led the geologic evaluations of a $100 million exploration venture in NE Brazil.
• Generated new plays and prospects, and evaluated farm-in opportunities in Honduras, Ecuador, Peru, Mauritania and Nigeria.

Getty Oil Company
Geologist, New Orleans, LA 1982-1984
• Team Leader for exploration effort in Bahamas. Evaluated regional geology and managed exploration program in two offshore exploration blocks.
• Conducted regional geologic studies and generated new play concepts in onshore and shallow-water US Gulf Coast region.
• Monitored industry activity and performed well-site duties.
