Fortune 250 Diversified Industrial Supply Chain Manager 3/02 – Present
Joined Company as the Manager, Supply Chain for ten of the Company's factories and all of its Service Centers with an organization of over 325 people and sales of over $1.1 billion. The Supply chain Managers for each facility report directly to me and have responsibilities for the shipping, receiving, purchasing, planning, warehousing, forecasting and material management. I provide the strategic vision and drive the tactical implementation of those strategies for the ten plants. In addition, I am also responsible for enabling the initiatives driven by our Logistics, SRM, Planning, Engineering, Rationalization, Operational Excellence and Finance groups. My team has accomplished the following:
· Reduced inventories 29% from $113 MM to $84 MM in 2002 · Developed a system to identify the excess and obsolete inventories and redirect all internal orders to that inventory (implementation scheduled Q2 2003). · Assisted in developing a process for the material flow in our factories. The systems include planning, forecasting, order management, broadcasting, Kan Ban, MRP (MAPICS), BOMs, supplier communication and Bar-coding · Team saved $41MM on purchases with the support of the Corporate Supply Chain team.
$2 Billion Wire and Cable Company, Assistant General Manager 4/00-12/01
Joined as Lean manager for this $60MM wire and cable manufacturer. After 10 months, I was promoted to Assistant General Manager with profit and loss for this operation with responsibility for the strategic and daily operations of the Production, Engineering, Production Control, Sourcing, Shipping, Maintenance and Quality Control departments. I managed 7 direct reports and led an organization of over 140 individuals. We twice overcame the efforts by unions to represent our workforce. Several operational achievements included:
· Increased productivity by over 15% and maintained only a slight reduction in production and sales while many of our suppliers were seeing a reduction in business of 40% and 50% · Successfully introduced Kan Ban systems and Kaizen program that improved on-time shipments to over 95%, reduced our inventories by 10% and improved our work-in-process inventory turns to over 30 turns · Instituted the first training program for all managers and supervisors that created an environment that valued personal growth and improvement. In addition, I created a system of measures and goals that objectively monitored and directed each department · Introduced the first computer workstations to the assembly floor · Succeeded in having only 1 lost day due to injury during my tenure · As the Lean Manager, I was responsible for running the Kaizen and 5-S events and other Lean activities. I hosted over 20 events that reduced set-up times, improved product flow, increased safety and organization in the factory
Fortune 5 Diversified Industrial, Master Black Belt 9/97- 4/00
Recruited to the Company to serve as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt (MBB). My primary responsibilities centered on the corporation’s large direct material suppliers. Selected accomplishments:
· Managed more than 20 projects, both within the corporate offices and at supplier locations · Developed the process to implement the Six Sigma methodologies at the Company’s direct supplier base and was instrumental in the development of the Supplier Quality Training program that resulted in 30% supplier quality improvement · Directed the efforts to develop the company’s A/P data warehouse, which compiled the data for over $6 billion of global purchases. Led the team that developed the very extensive blue print for this multi-million dollar system, created a detailed request-for-proposal, interviewed the industry leading corporations and made the final recommendation for the award · Facilitated an agreement with two of the Company’s businesses that resulted in a saving of over $1.6MM · Specified and developed an intranet-based system for the reporting of all sourcing savings from the hundreds of the Company’s businesses around the globe
Fortune 100 Diversified Industrial, Manufacturing Team Manager 5/95-9/97 After transitioning from shop floor control and engineering positions, I was promoted to Manufacturing Team Manager for a dynamic aircraft engine part manufacturing division. I was originally given a small team to manage and after three months, I was given the greater responsibility of managing a unionized work-group. In addition to the operational goals that were set and met, we improved the flow of materials, enhanced the physical plant and increased workforce morale. My team achieved significant results:
· Implementing JIT, Kaizen and Cellular processes to achieve: · Increase in throughput of 20% · Quality improvement from 0ver 3000 Defects Per Million to 66 Defects Per Million (98% reduction) · 90% reduction in customer overdue · Increase in overall inventory turns from 4.7 to 11.1 turns (137% increase) · ISO 9001 Certification
