Extensive experience in international business and operations including overseas assignments in Europe and Asia.

MULTI-NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY

VICE PRESIDENT – SERVICES BUSINESS UNIT, ASIA/PACIFIC AND CHINA REGIONS

Head of the services business unit in the Asia/Pacific and China regions for a large multinational telecommunications corporation, consisting of approximately $230 Million in annual revenue and more than 1800 service professionals in more than 13 countries. This general management position is responsible for all aspects and functions of the company’s services business with the region including sales, business development, delivery, and overall profit and loss management of the unit. Asked to assume this expanded role through the combination of previously separated China and Asia/Pacific regional services business units. Following is a summary of my major contributions and performance since I assumed responsibility for the unit.

- Exceeded both 2002 and 2003 fiscal plans for revenue and gross margin, including highest GM% results of any of the company’s regional services business units.
- Customer satisfaction and loyalty survey results highest of all worldwide regional units for overall customer report card results and all individual areas covering the services business.
- Employee engagement survey results exceeding all other regions.
- Exceeded FY 2002 China financial goals in first year of establishment of LWS organization and business in China (see next position). Supported overall China business growth of 50% CAGR over two years.
- Revenue and GM% held steady in spite of major downturn in overall telecom business in the region; therefore, increasing market share for services.
- Successfully completed a major restructuring of the Asia/Pacific to size of the business due to the changes in overall telecommunications market. Overall profitability in the first year after restructuring exceeded pre-downturn levels.
- Established, hired, and built services sales teams. Sales team achieved highest rating on internal corporate sales competency tests.
- Rapidly expanded regional services offerings, services portfolio and sales, developing and expanding services business into a number of offerings in Maintenance, Deployment, Professional, and Managed Services.
- Expanded customer base from exclusively telecommunications service provider into U.S. military and enterprise customers, and significantly broadening multi-vendor support capabilities.
- Team won one of the most comprehensive managed services (outsourcing) contracts in the industry for managing a well-known and well-regarded service provider’s 3G wireless network.

Asked to establish and lead the services organization and business in the China region. This involved bringing together a number of organizations and operations, combining organizations and legal entity operations that were part of existing joint ventures together with various direct sales operations. Established a new management structure, sales and business operations, and transformed a number of organizations previously managed as cost centers into a profit and loss center. Six months into the position, asked to lead combined Asia/Pacific and China services business.

Asked to return to Asia to head the Technical Support Services Asia/Pacific regional business unit within the company’s worldwide service business. This was approximately a 700 person organization providing technical support services for all countries in the Asia/Pacific regional market.

- Reorganized technical support groups, merged wireless and wireline support operations, established Singapore regional support center.
- Merged the support organizations of an acquisition of another major communications company into the overall company structure.
- Established TSS business operations and product marketing functions; developed TSS business plans, and established overall TSS profit/loss business.
- Almost doubled technical support services business to $80 million in 3 years.
- Dramatically improved customer technical support customer survey scores, from lowest in overall process areas to one of the highest in the company’s worldwide operations.

Specifically due to my previous international experience, I was asked to become both head of customer services business and product and sales Realization Program Management for Wireless Access product line. The first objective was to merge the wireless access systems businesses, operations, and organizations of a recently acquired Paris, France based communications company, the UK and U.S. into a single operation. The initial affect was a significant improvement in efficiencies and cost structures. I also created new and restructured existing regional organizations in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Africa. We then won several new large, important projects, including major new projects in South Africa, The Philippines, and Egypt. As this major new sales and projects were launched, I was asked to move back to Asia/Pacific.

Although I was asked by the President of our China business unit to continue on in my position in China, I felt that I had successfully completed my expatriate assignment in China and for both personal and professional reasons felt that it was time to seek a new position with the company in the United States. Through my own initiative, I interviewed with several organizations and was quickly offered a couple of positions. I accepted the position of head of a start-up organization spanning two locations (U.S. east coast and midwest) responsible for developing proposals and plans for the development for the company’s new CDMA mobility product line. My organization was responsible for both developing the overall architectural and project plans of the next generation network wireless CDMA systems’; and for defining and implementing the new organization for the actual development. The business plans were approved by the product unit and the architectural plans and development plans for new system design received highest marks by internal product architecture review board.

Asked to move from the U.K. to Taiwan to become Vice President of Customer Services and Support of a joint venture between my company (60% ownership) and 4 local Taiwanese companies. Once again, building from scratch, I established and led 250+ person Program/Project Management, Customer Service & Support, Systems Engineering, and Equipment Engineering organizations for network systems products. I also established a regional engineering center and an associated business unit. This professional services profit/loss group contributed 40% of net profit to the JV in final year of my tenure. We also substantially improved Customer Value Added key service attributes, including achieving 1991 home company’s highest quality award.

Asked to move to the United Kingdom to become head of the Customer Services and Support unit reporting to the Managing Director of the UK subsidiary of a joint venture between two large multi-national telecommunications companies, U.S. and European. These two companies had agreed to merge their telecommunications businesses and this unit and location had previously been a part of the European telecommunications company. At that same time, the U.S. company had also recently won a major contract with British Telecom to provide a complete Intelligent Network that was modeled after the 800 service network in the United States. I assumed responsibility for a 60+ customer services and support organization providing project management, installation, commissioning, engineering, and technical support to British Telecom for the IN and many other projects. I also built customer services business into a substantial contributor to joint venture’s UK branch’s financial results.
