Allstate Insurance Company, Northbrook, IL
Product Vice President 2001 – Present
P&L for 4 regions/13 states, with annual personal lines revenue of $5.8 billion and 2002 and 2001 underwriting profit of $516 million and $597 million (combined ratio of 90.8 and 88.6 respectively). Led a staff of 30, including 4 Product Managers and the Pricing Director.

· Collaborated with 4 Field Vice Presidents on growth/profitability improvement strategies, including marketing, product and forms language, risk management, systems and claims

· Provided all actuarial analysis and pricing recommendations, coordinated with legal and state filers, met with regulators, and communicated changes with field sales management and agencies.

· Led a cross functional team which developed and implemented corrective actions across several disciplines to improve the Personal Injury Protection coverage results and returned New York to a sustained profitability status.

· Led the team which developed and implemented strategies to return the New Jersey auto line to sustained profitability, and at a significant advantage vs. the rest of the industry.

President & Chief Operating Officer - Allstate Canada, Toronto, ON 1997 – 2001
Led P&L, operational, investment, profit sharing, pension plan and foundation for independent subsidiary of Allstate Insurance Company. Annual revenues of C$800 million, 350 employee agents, 2,000+ independent agencies, 1,600 total employees; a 5 year growth rate of 13.5% and a 5 year ROE of 6.3%.

· Assumed position upon the unexpected dismissal of previous President and two Vice Presidents; restored morale and confidence of the entire company, including sales agents, employees and the Board of Directors.

· Acquired and merged into Allstate Canada a publicly traded non-standard insurance company - Pembridge, Inc.; fulfilled strategy of expanding into independent agency distribution system, and entered the non-standard auto market in Canada.

· Integrated the 2 companies, reduced expenses by C$3 million, restructured organization to 2 business units and shared services organization.

· Created new/separate brand strategy for independent agency standard auto/home business, grew total Independent Agency channel from C$100 million to C$250 million.

· Managed and restructured an independent Board of Directors, including 5 outside and 4 inside directors. Served as member of Board, Audit and Conduct Review Committees, and Chairman of the Investment Committee.

· Led the creation of an integrated sales and service model for the Allstate channel distribution system which included on-line Internet sales and a call center; project delivered on time and under budget.

Regional Vice President, Sacramento, CA 1987 – 1997
P&L for Northern California Regional Office, $800 million in revenues, 10 year Combined Ratio of 95.9%, 800 employee sales agents, and 1,700 total employees.

· Led the development and implementation of a component-based insurance to value program, which generated an additional $90 million in revenue.

· Led the development and implementation of a mini earthquake policy to work in conjunction with the California Earthquake Authority.

· Consolidated 2 regional offices and established a documented company-wide model for the consolidations to follow which reduced the number of regions from 28 to 17.

· Consistently achieved one of the top life insurance sales results in the country.

· Created company-wide model for employee grass roots campaign during California Prop. 103.

Held a series of Director level jobs in Corporate Headquarters, each with greater responsibility, and each providing a broader exposure and understanding of the corporation and the industry.
