1997-2003
Dominion Semiconductor/Micron Technology Inc. Manassas, VA
(Newly established $800MM IBM/Toshiba joint venture with 1,200+ employees and a $1.6B capital investment)

Senior Business Analyst (2001-2003)
Senior Financial Analyst (1997-2001)

Recruited by the CFO (internal IBM hire) to act as the focal point for coordination of financial matters with both IBM and Toshiba, to be the primary knowledge base of semiconductor financial expertise, and to lead the design and implementation of the new cost accounting and financial systems which would set the standard for efficiency and accuracy for both IBM and Toshiba corporations in the semiconductor manufacturing environment. On-going responsibilities included supervision for all areas of finance and accounting (20 accountants and analysts overseeing an annual spending budget of $500MM/yr+) with the additional requirement after Feb 2000 to provide oversight of the inventory control department within financial planning (5 inventory analysts and 5 warehouse managers with total managed inventory greater than $60MM). Major responsibilities included supervision of the preparation of business plans, review of the analysis of new capital proposals, preparation of financial forecasts, analysis of operating results, and the coordination and review of the results of the monthly reporting process prior to the forwarding of these results to the parent companies.

• Designed and led the implementation of a completely new cost accounting system (using SAP) for a “Greenfield” implementation of a $1.6B corporation. Supervised the implementation, provided leadership, and coordinated with the parents and with the operating areas of the joint venture for every phase of the project from the proposal phase, to the hiring of the consultants (10 onsite and several more on-call), to the definition and actual execution of the code by the IT department (8 core SAP team members), and the final training of the accountants and financial analysts (10 initially) in the day-to-day requirements of running the newly implemented system. Awarded the CFO achievement award.
• Designed, gained consensus from both Toshiba and IBM division financial executives, and implemented the financial planning, reporting, and forecasting system which satisfied the unique reporting requirements for both IBM and Toshiba.
• Led 16 parts buyers and procurement specialists in the effort to successfully convert all “live” materials records (POs, active transactions, and master records) in SAP from the IBM-Toshiba formats to the Micron Technology, Inc. formats upon the sale of the company.
• Reduced the processing error rate by 95% for the existing parts rework process (50K PO line items per year with a budget of $4MM) as well as providing logistical and financial tracking where none existed.
• Implemented parts forecasting, and parts “pull” for inventory management in SAP using “Six-Sigma” project techniques. Reduced inventory by $2.2MM while also reducing the average parts reorder cycle from 4 days to 1 day and improving serviceability.
• Created measurements for inventory control to objectively determine performance from a $60MM inventory. Used data to increase spare parts inventory turns from 2/year to 4.5/year.

During this time, IBM Microelectronics, a $6B division of IBM at that time, was undergoing rapid expansion in terms of revenue and product range due to the decision in 1992 to open up direct sales to the OEM market. Initial jobs emphasized plant level investment analysis (capital budget $300MM/year) and the later positions emphasized division level and product line business analysis. The final position held was that of the senior accountant at a site with 38 accountants and financial analysts and involved providing significant leadership and oversight of the reporting and forecasting activities.

• Designed and implemented a financial forecasting model which allowed greatly improved site forecasts on an annual budget in excess of $900MM.
• Analyzed business proposals for strategic IBM Microelectronics products (PowerPC, Blue Lightning, Fast SRAM, RISC, etc.) with average revenue per product in excess of $20MM and with most Power PC revenues in excess of $40MM per product.
