2001 – Present
Portfolio Manager
Recruited to this $190 million AUM privately-owned investment advior firm as a global portfolio manager and securities analyst by the Co-Founder/Co-Owner and President in 2001, when the AUM totaled approximately $42 million.
Following is my portfolio’s net performance since I joined in April 2001 through December 2007: Portfolio Returns S&P 500 Index Difference 2007 17.59% 5.49% 12.10% 2006 11.26% 15.78% -4.52% 2005 10.49% 4.91% 5.58% 2004 7.18% 10.88% -3.70% 2003 36.09% 28.68% 7.41% 2002 -6.17% -22.10% 15.93% 2001* 13.92% -0.15% 14.07% Total Return 225.37% 42.36% 183.01% Avg Ann Ret 12.77% 5.36% 7.41% 1 Year 3 Year 5 Year Since Inception* Portfolio 17.59% 13.07% 16.08% 12.77% S&P 500 Index 5.49% 8.62% 12.83% 5.36%

Currently the portfolio has approximately $36 million under separate account management but was less than $1 million when I was hired. The Portfolio’s fees were increased from a scale of 1.95% to 2.25% in 2003 to increase profits. Four additional portfolios, including an Exchange Traded Fund portfolio, have been added since 2001. Assets in the portfolio have nearly doubled every year despite no increase in the firm’s sales personnel nor any additional research, trading, operations or administrative personnel assistance.
I have doubled what I was been making in a similar position at a subsidiary of a larger insurance company. The primary incentive was the retired founder’s plan to significantly grow individual securities under management and create an investment vehicle with me as the portfolio manager after a number of years similar to what he did at another large firm that he co-founded. Instead, the company has become primarily focused on financial and tax planning with the merger of CPAs. I am seeking a new challenge…ideally as a Chief Investment Officer; otherwise as a Senior Portfolio Manager.
Cross-selling of products and solicitor agreements have generated outside growth opportunities for the firm with the Portfolio as a primary attraction. Brand-name awareness was raised via a professional advertising campaign. As a result, the Portfolio has added significantly to my current firm’s brand recognition, growth in revenue, profitability and retention of clients.
Additional responsibilities include significantly assisting in legal and compliance issues.
1998 - 2001
Portfolio Manager – Securities Analyst
Joined this $200 million AUM investment advisor firm as the portfolio manager of large cap, small cap, international, balanced and fixed income mutual fund portfolio. Also, reported directly to the president, and made investment recommendations of over $80 million for approval by the investment board. By 2001 the AUM was nearly double that of 1998, and despite a volatile market, client retention was consistently very high. Marketing via outside solicitors rose and product selections increased to include index fund strategies.
My strategy (throughout 1999) was to significantly underweight technology related investments. I solely negotiated the inclusion of the Sequoia mutual fund in exchange of another closed mutual fund (Weitz Hickory fund). By 2000, value-oriented investments comprised of a large percentage of assets and much of the firm’s AUM was largely protected despite the down markets.
I also significantly assisted in legal and compliance issues.
1996 - 1998
Investment Advisor Analyst
Asked to join the compliance team as Regional Supervisor of over 800 registered representatives. Led a team of over 175 representatives through successful completion of an SEC Exam. After working closely with an established in-house attorney I was promoted to analyze the portfolio management risks of over $800 million for national investment advisor representatives. As the lead person for developing compliance risk-management procedures for client portfolios the company was able to eliminate areas of exposure during the market over the next few years. By advising senior management of risks to clients and the firm regarding an over-emphasis in technology, I was placed in charge of establishing policies, procedures and enforcement techniques to of reduce risks.
1995 - 1998
Founder and President
Launched a profitable real estate management company by purchasing undervalued rental properties and renting them for positive cash flow. Increased positive cash flow by over 5x and increased the value of assets by over 8% per year. The company maintained over 95% occupancy rates. The company’s assets were liquidated when I moved to another location.
1993 - 1995
Compliance Officer
Was asked to join the firm during my third year of law school to develop compliance procedures for an investment banking broker-dealer and investment advisor by Gail Werner-Robertson. I reviewed distribution practices and due diligence of over $3 million in private placement activities and developed compliance procedures and firewalls for both an investment banking and brokerage activities.
1985 - 1991 UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS Duty stations in California, Japan and North Carolina
Sergeant
Supervised legal services and training for over 50 Marines, and worked on both the prosecution and defense legal teams. Also worked in civil law and as a stenographer transcribing criminal courts-martial. Served in Korea and during Desert Storm. Honorably Discharged.
