Division Controller (1993 to 2000)
Senior Financial manager with full responsibility for the planning and leadership of the Division finance and accounting function. Developed, staffed and managed the Recorder Products Division as it grew from a privately held $18 million manufacturer of chart recorders for medical device manufacturers, to a $50 million division of a publicly held company with multiple products in multiple markets. Also managed a $12 million printed circuit board manufacturing operation providing products to the other five divisions of General Scanning. Reported to the Vice President, General Manager.
RESULTS Finance/Accounting Start-up •Identified and resolved serious software conversion problems. Selected by CFO to lead task force of Division Controllers along with Arthur Anderson systems group to correct accounting for inventory transactions resulting in accurate financial reporting and lower annual auditing fees. •Where, there had been none, designed and implemented participative budgeting and forecasting systems resulting in financial reporting package, improved financial control, productivity and the ability to manage to planned profit goals. •Implemented Strategic Planning for the first time, then annually coordinated and directed the preparation of the strategic plan, operating budgets and forecasted quarterly and annual financial performance to control and achieve financial results as planned. •Designed and implemented new product development project accounting system utilizing MicroSoft Excel resulting in improved cost management of R&D projects. •Implemented cycle counting of inventories eliminating the need to take physical inventory counts and reducing audit fees.

CHALLENGE: Establish Human Resource and Accounting/Finance management as the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Resolve employee disputes on amount of Vacation Pay owed and recognize liability.

RESULTS • Transitioned the organization from manual to automated accounting (Real World) and human resource (ABRA) systems improving employee productivity, financial reporting, and human resource management. • Developed, implemented, and produced Personnel Policies Manual where there had been none eliminating employee confusion and formulating polices on demand. • Saved over $50K through the review and evaluation of health maintenance organizations (HMO) preferred provider network (PPO) vendors and restructuring of employee contributions.
