Provided regional P&L and strategic management for Asia business unit with total staffs up to 95.
Achieved 23% revenue growth from $8.4 million to $10.4 million, and increased net income 32% from $1.6 million to $2.1 million. Over 50% of the revenue growth came from successful new sales initiatives in China, while continued improvements in gross margin and expense reductions resulted in even faster net income growth.
Personally oversaw $6 million project to construct a factory/office facility in Taiwan for the company’s new Asian headquarters. New facility expanded manufacturing capacity by approximately 250% as well as significantly boosting the company’s image when dealing with large corporate customers. Cost of construction (per square meter) was approximately 10-15% less than comparable buildings in the surrounding area.
Completed the design transfer and production ramp up of the company’s flagship high-end waterjet machine with a revolutionary software program and 3-D cutting capability. Successfully launched the new machine in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea.

Responsible for P&L and daily operations management for Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and Australia. Provided engineering and manufacturing support for China and South Korea sales operations. Coordinated regional sales efforts with Japanese division.
Achieved 18% revenue growth from $7.1 million to $8.4 million, reversing previous trend of negative growth. Net income increased 184% from $560K to $1.6 million.
Negotiated with Japanese division to switch their manufacturing source from the U.S. to Taiwan. Impressed the Japanese Sales Manager with Taiwan’s superior manufacturing quality as well as lower costs and simpler logistics. Started exporting machines to Japan for the first time in company history.
Manufacturing Manager, 1998 – 2000
Managed 28 people manufacturing department which included precision parts machine shop, machine assembly, production planning, purchasing, and manufacturing engineering.
Headed a cross-functional team to manage the company wide conversion to a new ERP system. Developed new operational procedures to fully utilize new systems capabilities. Successful implementation resulted in higher manufacturing efficiency, tighter inventory control, and tighter financial controls.
Successfully ramped up production of a German designed line of waterjet machines at the Asia manufacturing plant. Strengthened the Quality Assurance function and put in place worker training programs to ensure a highly skilled work force up to the challenge of manufacturing and testing sophisticated machine tools.
Participated in a global new product development project and Taiwan plant was chosen to build the prototype machine over Germany and the U.S. in recognition of Asia division’s fast lead time, high manufacturing quality, and low cost. Prototype was completed on time and on budget to be shown at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting.
Marketing and Service Manager, 1995 – 1998
Created and implemented marketing strategies for entire range of company products. Responsibilities included budgeting, advertising, direct mail campaigns, and new product launches. Planned out and attended machine tool trade shows in China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Produced bilingual sales material and standard quote books for Sales Department.
Managed the 9 people aftermarket service department and increased spare parts sales revenue by double digits every year. Instituted innovative service programs that increased customer loyalty and satisfaction. Standardized customer training and troubleshooting procedures. Responsible for all sales activities in Southeast Asia countries.
