Vice President and General Manager Turn-around role where I led the shift to a performance culture in a media company's largest P&L ($40M+). Met 2011 targets and am now developing strategies for growth in social and mobile.
Vice President, Consumer Products at Established Major Brand 2008-2011 Responsible for all product, revenue and online marketing for desktop web and mobile properties for a decades-old brand with annual revenues over $100M. * Results: Exceeded all 2009 and 2010 goals for traffic and revenue in spite of reduced consumer activity in the market. Recruited and built team of 20+. * Product Leadership: Increased confidence in the consumer business by restructuring around experienced leaders, bringing transparency to operations and building relationships with technology, design, sales and other teams. * Change Initiation: Sponsored and promoted a business case that recommended a shift toward consumer-centric product strategy over a pure revenue approach. Results include a significant financial investment to re-launch the consumer experience in 2011. * Innovation: Co-sponsored "skunkworks" projects that solve key consumer pain points or push the company's envelope of thinking. Successes include mobile applications (now 20% of user engagements) and the a product that engaged consumers through voice, mobile and social methods. * External Investment: Key member of business planning, investment support and transition planning teams during our 2010 efforts to shop and sell the company.
Vice President, Marketing 2008 Publicly Traded Consumer Brand Interim role focused around restructuring the portfolio of traffic acquisition initiatives as the company prepared for possible acquisition. * Results: Immediately adjusted search engine marketing spend portfolio to increase site quality ratings and ROI on traffic spend. Suggested site changes to increase conversion. * Change Initiation: Challenged CEO on previous positioning and cross-trafficking of the company's portfolio of properties. This led to a more effective multi-property strategy. * Organization: Recommended organizational streamlining during the 2008 credit market downturn, including the elimination of my own role.
COO 2007-2008 Venture-Funded Consumer Media Startup Responsible for marketing, operations, and management/integration of acquired digital properties at a media startup backed by two top tier venture firms. * Digital Strategy: Provided category experience and advertising expertise to the lead entrepreneur in the formation of the strategy, business plan and pitching through the A-round investment. Secured a joint investment from two venture firms in approximately 4 months. * Product: Developed the product / content approach to support our network strategy. * Operations: Set up basic office technology and worked with a consulting CFO to establish financial and HR systems. * Organization: Integrated an acquired company into the company portfolio and team.
Executive Director and other roles 1999 - 2007 Nationally Recognized Consumer Brand Company is a leading consumer destination and advertising outlet within its category. * Executive Director, Media Products: Led efforts to define, plan and implement new capabilities across our network of websites: - Search - Multimedia - Publishing - Registration * Senior Property Director: Served as the property manager for the company's flagship website and main source of revenue. - Oversight of day-to-day website publishing activities and product management. - Implementation of revenue programs such as advertising and leads. - Optimization of the user experience. * Director, Various New Initiatives: In this role I served as an entrepreneur-in-residence, rotating through various functional areas as we launched new lines of business.
