Director of Risk Management A Fortune 500 company with 61,000 employees and 100 manufacturing sites in over 40 countries. As Director of Risk Management I was responsible for the design, placement and administration of all casualty, property and financial insurance programs, claims administration, cost allocation systems, maintenance of self-insured accruals and resolution of coverage issues. The department was comprised of four professionals. Notable accomplishments include: Redesign of the global property program resulting in annual savings in excess of $2 million. Establishment of a Vermont Captive to write Warranty Business, permitting tax-favored treatment of other coverage lines and enhancing cost control of warranty program. Savings in excess of $500k annually Establishment of a Dublin Captive to underwrite European property, fleet and global cargo programs resulting in administrative savings in excess of $500 thousand annually. Leadership of a corporate team in a World Class Safety Initiative. Savings in excess of $62 million were achieved by halving the cost per hour worked within 3 years. Co-led a team, with the General Counsel, that redesigned the contract review and management process. Permits the businesses to respond quickly to customer requirements. Designed an internet based system in support of the above process, that allows most certificates to be requested and issued in the field. Designed and implemented a system for updating property and business interruption values via the internet. Increased accuracy increased leverage in the negotiation of property premiums. Designed a loss sensitive process for allocating costs to the operating entities inciting them to make improvements in their risk profile. Designed and managed a property loss control process which raised the companys HPR profile by more than 10 points in one year. Brought Risk Management processes into compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and finalized documentation package.
British Conglomerate 1990-1994 Director of Risk Management Responsible for the property and casualty risks for this $6 billion British corporation. They manufactured industrial products and owned one of the worlds largest general contractors. Analyzed existing policies and designed a unified program, saving $1 million the first year. Saved $.5 million in workers compensation costs in each of 3 years by developing a loss auditing process and marketing the program. Implemented a workers compensation allocation system that enhanced financial accountability and promoted proactive safety programs.
Global manufacturer 1980-1990 Director of Risk Management (1986-1990) Risk Manager (1983-1986) Managed the worldwide property and casualty risks the company. Controlled an annual budget in excess of $20 million and managed a staff of 5 professionals. Sold the loss portfolio of the captive generating a $5 million profit and eliminating future risk of loss. Reconstructed the company's coverage history, permitting multi-million dollar recoveries in 3 different areas of litigation.
Corporate Claims Manager (1980-1983) Managed all lines of claims including $50 million of self-insured product liability reserves. Established reserves, retained counsel, negotiated settlements and collected from excess insurers. Developed and implemented an allocation system for product liability costs which both enhanced visibility and promoted proactive prevention efforts. Created the first computerized claim run which, among other things interfaced with our excess policies and permitted speedy and uncontested recovery of monies owed.
A Global Brokerage Firm 1973-1980 Senior Account Representative Oversight of casualty claims programs for Fortune 500 companies. Functions included: Negotiating settlements, reconciling adjustments on cash flow programs, and resolving coverage disputes. Clients included Amstar, GAF, Citibank and Gulf Oil. Helped design claim systems for the Three Mile Island loss that permitted speedy payment and minimized litigation. Established system which is still used for reviewing and reconciling retrospective adjustments of client firms.
