Project Coordinator, SPNS * Led the technical and operational aspects of a Human Resource Service Administration (HRSA) funded Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) grant for an innovative Health Information Technology initiative awarded to NYP. * Successfully developed and launched an XML Continuity of Care Document (CCD) based clinical patient portal for 1500 PLWHA, clinicians and case managers within first year. Adoption exceeds independently published expectations. * Integrated existing Filemaker Pro Advanced Server with an expanded MySQL database backend in order to facilitate increasing clinical information interfacing needs. Co-Managed Apple XServe systems and client workstations. * Conducted system security and usage audits to ensure compliance with HIPAA, New York State Law and Department of Health, and hospital requirements. * Liaison with local project evaluation team at the Columbia University Department of Biomedical Informatics and the national Health Information Technology Evaluation Center (HITEC) at University of California San Francisco. * Managed vendor relationships as well as staff involved with community outreach, education and training. 1997 to 2008 FactSet Research Systems Inc. – Norwalk, CT Leading provider of global financial data and analysis tools with over 25,000 users across Wall Street’s largest firms.
Vice President, Production Systems (2002) * Promoted by Executive VP for successful development of tools providing process transparency, monitoring, notification, and reporting for operations, engineers, and management. Expanded team to three full-time employees. * Coordinated with Systems Engineering, Security, QA, and Infrastructure departments to ensure business continuity of internal database production, client processing, data validity, and security during planned and unplanned disruptions. * Improved process charting time saving countless hours of tedious manual effort. Achieved by development of a web- based automated system that enabled rapid visualization and documentation of complex and often inter-related processes.
Manager, Production Systems & Support Team (2000) * Promoted by Company President/Founder and charged with creation of the Production Systems group. Position reported to the Executive VP of Information Research/QA and assumed all production automation responsibilities. * Directed critical 24x7 system operations, production, integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities. * Developed and conducted training programs on automation systems and best practice for new engineering staff.
Systems Engineer (1997) * Responsible for dual $20MM hot data centers. This included facilities (build-out and relocations), systems evaluation, purchase, installation, integration, security, maintenance and support, as well as supervision of operations staff. * Expanded role into quality review of nightly processing to provide guidance to software engineering on standardization and centralization of database updates under a central corporate job scheduling system.
1984 to 1997 The Purdue Pharma Research Center – Yonkers, NY A privately held ethical pharmaceutical company founded by physicians, focused on the needs of patients
Manager, Research Systems (1993) * Promoted by Executive VP/Director of Research and created the Research Systems department with an operating budget of ~$1MM. Responsible for staffing, strategy, hardware, and software solutions to support the entire R&D effort. * Effectively handled a nearly 10-fold increase in R&D staff, equipment, data collection and analysis. * Authored and implemented SOP’s for disaster recovery, security, operations, backup, and archiving. Senior Scientist / Manager, Laboratory Information Systems (1991) * Promoted by Director of Pharmaceutical Analysis to lead LIMS strategic development, planning, design, engineering, implementation, validation and testing. * Ensured system and data integrity, security, accessibility, and stability; to support IND/NDA and clinical research. Associate Senior Scientist / Laboratory Information Systems Specialist (1989) * Computerized all chromatography systems (HPLC, LC-GC/MS). Responsible for evaluation, purchase, and validation (IQ,OQ,PQ) of lab systems as well as continued system upgrades/support and training to ensure cGALP compliance. Research Associate/Research Scientist (1984/1986) * Completely automated tablet dissolution lab enabling rapid expansion of stability testing programs. * 25% increase in productivity in the bioanalytical and stability departments within the first 6 months of joining. * Technical Addendum *
Adept at picking up any new technology and quickly implementing solutions with them, my extensive experience and proactive approach has often resulted in a small proof of concept becoming a major tool. Adopted by a small set of evangelical users, my proofs evolve via a team effort providing feedback and beta testing. This iterative application development allows for rapid enhancement and bug fixes yet critically depends on strategic design, structured development, established interfaces, change management and effective quality assurance.
Selected Development Projects
* My Health Profile: A database backed online portal to display core medical information for patient and clinician use. Utilized Unix shell scripting, Perl, MySQL procedures/functions and Filemaker scripting. Hosted on IIS. * Shift Operator's Display: Web based system to monitor 24x7 production jobs. Utilized C++/API to access scheduling system information and job details, XML, Java, HTML. Hosted on an Apache server.
* Process Flowchart Engine: Web front end to visualize complex process flow and interdependencies. Text export of scheduling system objects parsed with Perl to XML. Processed server-side using Perl and the AT&T open source package Graphviz. Hosted on a Microsoft IIS server.
* JAMS Statistics Portal: ASP.Net application summarizing production statistics and providing historical charting. Data was fetched from a Microsoft SQL Server database updated by a Java application.
* InfoTrap Notifications: A two part system to perform event messaging to engineers and clients and allow tracking/escalation. Comprised of a backend engine in DCL and C with web front end driven by XML/XSL as well as CGI scripts. Hosted on an Apache server.
* Client Security Audit Utility: Scripted PGP configuration, encryption/decryption interfaces as well as a web display for security staff to review internal user access of client storage areas and applications. DCL, cURL, Perl, XML/XSL, hosted on an Apache server.
* JAMS Voyager: A browser based proof of concept allowing a completely different view of comparative production statistics. Based on the Baby Name Wizard Java applet, data was fed from monthly summaries of the JAMS Statistics database noted above.
