SELECT TECHNICAL ACCOMPLISHMENT
Led Design of Field Computing System for Remote Asian Operations. Played key role in highly visible project with Chinese government to provide first-ever seismic reflection profile through the Himalayas. In accelerated timeframe, led design of rugged-ized field computing system for remote operations in Tibet. Also deployed satellite communications. System functioned flawlessly, avoiding numerous acquisition errors and facilitating communication with Chinese colleagues and field crew. Was later used in further expeditions to Tibet, Montana, and Siberia.
SELECT BUSINESS ACCOMPLISHMENT
Conceived and Implemented Portfolio Analysis Which Led to $363MM in Funding. As part of team that reviewed all of company's significant exploration & development investments, roughly $360MM/year, was charged with annual screening of opportunities from each business unit. To overcome differences in technical analysis and risk assessment, developed process to ensure consistent basis for comparison. Process was embraced by company’s business planners and was used to make successful budget request to worldwide headquarters, yielding high ROI.
CAREER SUMMARY
Vice President / Chief Technology Officer, Former U.S. Department of Energy laboratory, 2001 to present. Under direction of CEO, lead staff of 75 and execute contracts totaling $81MM. Areas include energy production, environmental management, transportation materials & refining, and biotechnology. Active in Canadian oil sand and coal-bed methane technology development. Created and lead NASA/DOT program to apply remote sensing techniques from oil patch to transportation infrastructure management. Won 5-year renewal of $20MM DOE contract. Routinely interact with C-level executives, senior government officials, and boards.
Director / Sr. Geophysicist, Global Fortune 50 company "Supermajor", 1997 to 2001. Responsible for acquisitions, divestitures, and opportunity generation within my region, leading several 10-15 person multidisciplinary project teams each with budgets of up to $31MM. Initiated and managed new business valued by Shell in excess of $600MM. Last assignment was to start up and manage Shell's 3D collaborative virtual reality (VR) center, used for design and quality assurance of +$2B portfolio of engineering projects.

Co-founded and led rapid growth of energy technology company that pioneered PC-based horizontal drilling software, as well as UNIX-based real-time operations centers.
