PHYSICIANWEBLINK www.pwlink.com 2000-2006
Director Information Services & Information Security Officer PhysicianWeblink is a Management Services Organization (MSO) servicing the Managed Healthcare Insurance marketplace with primary focus on Independent Physician/Practice Associations (IPAs). I joined this organization soon after a merger in May 2000; and helped successfully transition this brick-and-mortar company to a solid profitable click-and-mortar company. During this time the company has adapted many times, starting with 180 employees, expanding to over 600 employees with multiple divisions (including Medical Informatics, Electronic Health Records and even a WebMD/Healtheon-like product) and subsequently falling as low as 150 employees. Today the company has 220 employees and looks to achieve steady growth. My role was to meet the every changing demand on business information systems; lead expansion as well as cost cutting efforts; select systems through a formal RPF “make vs. buy” process; install, maintain and replace systems (including Claims, Clinical Management, HR, Financial, Web-portals and more.) Accountable for by planning, developing, and executing strategic plans as well as supporting the day-to-day operational functions; currently $250M claims volume; as high as $390M across 6 states. (Systems included EZ CAP, McKesson, PracticeConnect, Virtual Auth, Soloman, MS SQL, Cognos) E-Commerce responsibility transforming a “Brick and Mortar” company to a “Click and Mortar” company. 80% of all transactions occurring over the Internet and includes an integrated customer relationship management module. Employee turnover rate slashed from 85% to 20%; average tenure increased from 5 months to 30+ months and climbing – savings over $200,000 Wide breadth and adaptive management style. Able to operate calmly and aggressively during disasters but yet build lasting business relationships. Chief Security Officer for meeting good business security practices and lead the company towards full compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPAA.]
Lead cross departmental Project Management training programs, with the aim to further strengthen continuous quality improvement attitudes. Building and Championing Data Warehouse Vision, by taking the company to the next level, with a Data Driven Strategy focused on Quality Care and Cost Management subject matter areas. Leading the company in developing an Information Strategy to link its quality healthcare initiatives with fiscal accountability. The strategy includes adopting a document management system with linked Intranet portal services for routine key indicators. Resulted in over $500,000 in new revenues; and projected at $1M in FY2005. Chaired the team to evaluate “main” transaction system replacement; Saved $3M and $500K annually. Remarkable ability to instill team with a can-do attitude. With only a 66 day notice, IS relocated 150 employees into a brand new building (including transferring all phones and the computer room.) The physical unpacking was the limiting factor to staff productivity and not IS. Provided a leadership role in bringing customer service and accountability to the IS Department. Instituted Service Level Agreements. Implemented a project management system appropriate for the company size. Developed a strategic architecture “road map” to technology adoption and life-cycle management. Renegotiated all telephone, software, and maintenance contracts. Reduced telephone budget 42% [FY2002-03] Responsible for overseeing the shutdown of 4 divisions including all aspects of the Electronic Medical Records software division shutdown. [FY2002] Developed and maintain company disaster recovery plan. [FY2001-2004] 2004- Now Chief Security Officer & Director, I.S. reporting to COO 2000–2003 Director, Information Services reporting to COO
