Location: Open Midwest US or near a major metropolitan area/airport
Role: As a key member of the Business Development Organization (BDO), support, build and grow our Grid Stabilization Utility Business within the energy/utility industry for addressable market applications, including frequency regulation, firming of renewable energy (photovoltaic and wind), and power quality management. The position of Senior Application Engineer supports the BDO by applying technical expertise within power generation, transmission, and distribution. As a strategic sales resource, this person supports a complex sales process, identifies solution fit, and provides timely response to sales requests and highly technical customer inquiries, and ultimately helps convert opportunities to contracted business. In conjunction with assigned account directors, the Senior Application Engineer provides in-field support with subject matter expertise in grid integration of renewable resources, power quality, and voltage control. The position works closely with Proposal Management and Product Management in proposal and product responses to specific customer applications and opportunities.

Responsibilities: This position is responsible for:
In collaboration with our External Business Development Team, provide both strategic and tactical high-level technical support relating to commercial business opportunities and applications with targeted customers to meet Team sales objectives. Provides technical assessment, opportunity qualification, and appropriate solution fit supporting RFI and RFP responses. Works closely with the Business Development Team, Proposal Management, and Product Management in the assessment and sales support processes. Provides necessary technical input for us to effectively produce order winning proposals and inquiry responses. Works closely with the customer, proposal management, & the Product Manager throughout the quotation process. Provides technical and application support to Business Development and Marketing to assist in the development of sales presentations. In partnership with external directors of business development, support customer relationships at all levels within the customer organization. Ensure the delivery of customized, high-value technical solutions and ongoing sales support systems for targeted customers. Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of competitive technologies and their commercial activity within the energy/utility sector; provide reports on a regular basis to sales, product management, marketing, and engineering. Participate in the development and implementation of appropriate response strategies. Works closely with the Product Manager and engineering in providing customer, industry, and competitive feedback. Helps identify beta site customers and opportunities for new product launches or major product enhancements. Willing to travel up to 80% of the time in support of sales and customer needs. Travels to company HQ for sales team meetings and quarterly planning sessions with the senior management team. Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows and technical association meetings to increase the visibility, awareness and commercial opportunities of the companys Grid Stabilization business & energy storage capabilities. Qualifications: To perform in this position successfully, an individual must have:
BS in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering required; advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering preferred. At least 15+ years of progressively more complex technical experience working with utilites or power systems or supporting the sale of product and system solutions to commercial partners & suppliers and end users in the Utility industries Experience with engineering and design of electrical transmission substations, high voltage equipment and systems. Ability to perform grid stability studies and analysis. Familiarity with software related to grid modeling, including PSSE and DigSilent. Strong aptitude for business case analysis and ability to provide engineering calculations. Energy management experience that includes supply and demand side management with a strong understanding of Federal Energy Management Programs is a plus Utility system experience should include knowledge of operations and maintenance, condition and capacity assessments, infrastructure planning and design, and capital asset management for electrical utility systems CADD, GIS knowledge, and facility design experience is helpful Expertise with both grid connect, grid independent applications including IEEE1547, energy storage, battery state of charge and power management, and renewable energy applications. Skills with DC and AC electrical power conversion and equipment along with electrical system modeling and simulation Knowledge of electrical standards, including SAE, IEC, DIN, NEC, UL, and CE Work together with design & engineering firms to create sales opportunities Develop and maintain guide specs to support design & engineering firms
