The Director, reporting to the Sr. Director of Business Development, will analyze and identify strategic business issues relating to product development and commercialization; develop and propose workable solutions to internal teams, including senior management; and work closely with partner companies to facilitate strategic planning and address a wide variety of business issues.
Top Candidate Qualities: • Strong educational background with a BA/BS is required. Ideal credentials would be a JD or a MBA proceeded by a degree in biology, chemistry, or pharmacy. • Well-developed understanding of the pharmaceutical business, acquired through a minimum of 7-10 years of industry experience in one or more of the following areas: business development, licensing, brand management. • Strong understanding of the commercial and scientific issues involved in making strategic decisions in the industry. • Broad knowledge of licensing transactions and deal structure is required. • Candidate should be comfortable reading and interpreting licensing contracts, analyzing market trends, modeling potential business solutions, interpreting market research, and reviewing technical data.
Job Responsibilities Include: • Work with brand and development teams to identify strategic business issues arising during a product's commercial life. Issues may include, for example, arranging terms for a novel development program for one of our products, working out supply arrangements, managing intellectual property issues, or arranging to bring in a marketing partner or to out-license/sell a product. • Thoroughly analyze and model alternative approaches to resolving strategic product issues. As part of the Alliance Management team, propose and implement workable solutions that achieve desired development and business goals. As part of this responsibility, developing and manipulating financial models may be required. • Facilitate the clear communication and resolution of ongoing business issues relating to our partner companies. Partnerships are critical to company's business, and during the course of our partnerships various business issues arise that require review of our existing contracts or, on occasion, amending those contracts. • Arrange for periodic meetings with each of company's major partners to facilitate the exchange of information. This will require coordinating and preparing an agenda for these meetings, and preparing minutes and action item lists. Also, follow-up internally and with the partner afterward to ensure that action items are being executed as agreed. • Serve as an internal resource relating to company's licensing agreements and their underlying deal structures. • Some travel will be required with this position, as most of our partners are located in Europe, Japan or other parts of the United States.
