Executive Job Description | Pension Benefits Director Location: Southeast US (confidential search) Salary: Excellent & bonus Relocation provided
Reports to: VP Benefits (dotted line to VP Accounting)
Pension Plans Responsible for the design, administration and communication of the Company Pension Plan (Cash Balance). Collaborate with outside trustee, actuary and legal counsel to ensure appropriate Plan administration, adequate funding, and compliance with applicable regulations and laws. Ensure current employees are knowledgeable of benefits available to them through communication of accrued Plan benefits. Provide information for decision making, and ensures initiation of benefits to retiring employees. Monitor and evaluate performance of Plan's investment funds and reports results on regular basis to Retirement Committee. Keep Retirement Committee apprised of plan issues including funding level, compensation issues, etc. Manage vendor relationship. Coordinate and facilitate the completion of the Pension plan audit.
401(k) and Stock Ownership Plans Responsible for the design, administration and communication of the Company 401(k) and Stock Ownership Plan, including the leveraged Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
Special Projects / Other Prepare retirement benefit footnotes for 10K/10Q disclosures. Coordinate actuarial assumptions to be used in benefit obligation assumptions. Prepare journal entries as needed to facilitate proper quarterly accounting/reporting of benefit plan balances. Responsible for the management of ancillary financial benefit programs including the company-endorsed Section 529 plan and the retiree life insurance and medical benefit programs. Complete special projects as assigned, including analyzing proposed changes to benefit plans and present recommendations to senior management. Review account reconciliations to ensure oversight/control environment is working properly.
Requirements: Bachelors degree in business/finance/accounting and a minimum of 5-10 years experience Outstanding oral/written communication skills, including the ability to make group presentations Strong analytical skills - able to solve and analyze complicated proposals and succinctly communicate results Thorough working knowledge of appropriate government regulations pertaining to defined benefit and defined contribution plans (ERISA and Internal Revenue Code). Strong organizational skills and willingness to work as a team with other departments, particularly IS, payroll, and legal departments Exposure to the accounting/finance implications of retirement plan maintenance and changes
Desired Qualifications MBA Working knowledge of word processing and human resources software Accounting knowledge/CPA a plus Understanding of investment principles, including the ability to analyze and monitor fund performance Insurance industry experience a plus Experience with Cash Balance Pension Plans Role up your sleeve role. 80% of the role is in DB administration, 10% accounting, and 10% managing the 401k admin.
