Executive Job Description | Our client is a startup in the online advertising world, based in New York City. We build large-scale distributed applications on Amazon Web Services - largely utilizing the JVM - that collect and analyze large quantities of data. At times we have around 150 machines up and crunching away.
We aspire to keep our technology fresh so the work stays interesting, and since we're a startup, the organization is very flat, allowing for maximum freedom and autonomy. We think this fosters an environment of trust that increases productivity and morale. Similarly, there is no one on the technical staff that does not code, so you won't be told to stick to a spec an out-of-touch architect designed last year when day-to-day realities clearly trump the design - we are looking for people who can design for themselves, and who can see their creations through from start to finish.

Desired Skills:
* Extensive experience with the JVM
* Extensive experience with Linux
* Understanding of Domain Driven Design
* When you see an overgrown service layer, a sickly feeling develops in your stomach
* Functions that accept functions as arguments delight you, as do functions that return functions
* Your development MO (modus operandi for the Latin speakers) involves simplicity
* You know what Scala is, and you have/want experience with it
* You're willing to admit that concurrent programming is difficult, and you have adopted patterns, practices, and languages that make it easier
* You use Amazon Web Services, and you think it's awesome
* You recoil in horror when thoughts of life before jQuery come back to haunt you
* You think NoSQL databases are neat, and you have/want experience with them
