Executive Job Description | Cooper Management Associates
Our client is currently seeking a Director of Labor Relations for their Mid-Atlantic and Tri-State Divisions. Based at our client’s corporate headquarters in New Jersey, this position reports to the VP of Labor Relations and is supported by Labor Relations Specialists. This is a very hands-on position requiring frequent travel within the assigned geographical areas of NY, NJ, DE, DC, MD and Northern VA.
Major Job Accountabilities: - Implement company's labor relations programs, policies, and procedures - Prepare and present Company position in grievance arbitrations - Interpret collective bargaining agreements - Provide labor relations counsel to top operations executives in each division. - Provide preparation and assistance in labor contract negotiations - Provide grievance and contract training to Operations Management - Provide policy and procedure support to Human Resources - Establish and maintain satisfactory labor-management relations
Knowledge and Skills: - General knowledge of employment law - General knowledge of labor law - Excellent oral and written communication skills - Excellent organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills - Excellent analytical skills - Sharp thinker who is articulate and can think out of the box
Qualifications: - Bachelors' degree required. JD degree preferred. - 5+ years of related experience managing a labor relations function including contract and union negotiations within a large multi-site company. Preferred unionized industry experience includes Transportation, Retail or Wholesale Grocery, Airline or other multi-site and multi-Local environments. - Arbitration and ERISA expertise - Strong confident negotiator who can be an advocate and develop and maintain relationships - Experience in employment law and/or employee relations preferred.
