Reports to: VP, Compensation and Benefits Direct Reports: 3 to 4 direct reports and 8 to 10 total staff
Position Summary This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of strategic compensation and benefits programs, and the processes associated with supporting these programs. The position supports and works with Company leadership to ensure that these programs support the company’s strategies, business objectives and talent acquisition and retention goals, while maximizing total compensation value and responsibly managing the Company’s investment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities: • Ensures that Company compensation and benefits programs are consistent with the Company’s business objectives and total rewards strategy. • Analyzes existing or proposed compensation and benefit programs, practices and procedures, and makes recommendations regarding changes and improvements. • Supports the VP Compensation & Benefits and the Senior Vice President of Human Resources to ensure that the needs of the Board of Directors and Compensation Committee are met. This includes research, analysis and the development of presentation materials • Effectively manages vendors to ensure appropriate service levels. • Provides leadership, guidance and direction to the Company’s executives and managers regarding specific compensation and benefits issues • Works with the Finance Department to ensure adequate estimates, forecasts, and calculations of expenditures in compensation and benefits for budget planning and tracking. • Ensures compliance with all relevant government regulations, including ERISA reporting and disclosure requirements, FMLA, HIPAA, and FMLA. • Oversees development and implementation of effective total rewards communication programs. • Works with the HRIS Manager and IT to ensure the availability of the systems and technology to support the compensation and benefits function. • Selects, develops and directs talented and effective department staff members.
Education, Qualifications & Working Conditions • Strong functional expertise in benefits design and administration. • Strong functional expertise in broad based and executive compensation. • Certified Benefits Professional, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist, or Certified Compensation Professional certifications a plus. • Working knowledge of government regulations that apply to compensation and benefit programs (ERISA, TEFRA, ADA, etc.) and the standard filings required by the Department of Labor/IRS. • Demonstrated strength in managing and developing direct and indirect reports. • Experience managing vendors. • Experience with stock plan administration a plus • Strong quantitative skill and the ability to think critically • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, discretion and ethics. • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to interpret contractual language into easily understandable text; comfortable in group presentation and negotiations. • Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as with groups. • Strong software skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and HR systems. • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work. • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business or a related field. Advanced degree a plus. • At least 6 years of progressive related experience (7 to 10 preferred), including 3 years in a management role (5 to 7 preferred).
