The Director of Benefits will provide strategic and operational leadership of the associate (employee) benefits function by developing and delivering benefits-related strategies, plans, programs and practices that continue to be recognized by associates as exceptional and which enable the Organization to attract and retain high quality associates. Ideal candidate will be responsible to provide strategic and operational leadership of the employee benefits function by developing and delivering benefits-related strategies, plans, programs and practices. Responsible for the corporate benefits budget. Collaborative style is imperative as this position works closely with senior executives in designing and implementing competitive benefit programs. Knowledge of relevant regulatory and compliance-related factors. Recent knowledge of benefits-related aspects and trends is critical.

Description of the Ideal Candidate
• The ideal candidate will have recent benefits-related experience (e.g., health and welfare plans including fully-and-self insured plans, carve out prescription plans; 401(k) plans; defined benefit pension plans; deferred comp/non-qualified plans; automated systems/outsourced systems and partners; mergers/acquisition experience helpful).
• 10 + years of recent dedicated benefits-related experience.
• Minimum Education - Bachelor's Degree

Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Organization's senior executives to define benefits-related strategies that provide the optimal balance between associate value and cost.
• Provide leadership in translating the strategies into deliverables and in the effective communication of the benefits offerings to associates.
• Manage the ongoing benefits administration through highly effective internal and external relationships and processes.
• Manage the administration, budgeting, communications and compliance efforts for all of the Organization’s health, welfare and retirement benefit programs.
• Work with external benefits consultants to analyze existing coverage’s and develop proposals to senior management for program changes and enhancements.
• Manage Department staff; make hiring decisions, plan and assign tasks and projects, monitor results and evaluate performance of staff, recommend salary actions or disciplinary actions, if necessary.
• Keep abreast of federally mandated changes in all related benefits programs and recommend changes to implement procedures to comply with laws, if appropriate.
• Create and maintain automated systems to record and retrieve pertinent data relative to all plans and vendors’ utilization, compliance and contractual accuracy.
• Develop benefit policies/administrative procedures; ensure practices adhere to governmental regulations (local, state and Federal laws) and applicable IRS tax codes, so as to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees, analyze cost trends of all plans to recommend sound business decisions to senior management, and ensure the programs remain competitive and cost-effective,
• Ensure quality service and timely resolutions of problems, in order to foster positive relations between Customers (i.e., associates, retirees, dependents, beneficiaries, etc,) and the Department. Also, manage the Department staff in the execution of the benefits programs and foster a cooperative effort between the Department and managers/supervisors throughout the Organization.
• Maintain positive external communications with insurance carriers, consultants, or vendors to ensure contract provisions are adhered to and support services are received.
• Responsible for planning and monitoring the Corporate Benefits budget as well as the Department budget.
