Client Overview

Our client is a leading global insurance company with a strong track record of profitable growth and leading market positions in the segments it serves. It is a top ten US insurance firm, a Fortune 250 organization, and recognized as one of the “America’s Most Admired” firms with about $15 billion in revenues.

Their Claims function is well recognized as a top quality organization and has recently reorganized its information technology organization creating new roles. There is an immediate need for a Analytics and Business Intelligence Architect to join this top ten property casualty insurer. The position is located conveniently in an attractive New York City suburb.

Position Summary:

The Analytics and Business Intelligence Architect will be responsible for the design of analytics (i.e., text mining, SAS) and business intelligence architectural solutions and their integration into the existing IT architecture for the Claims function including:

• Manage business intelligence and analytics architecture in accordance with Corporate IT standards and methodologies
• Provide expert knowledge of analytics technical solutions and BI architecture to IT teams
• Serve as IT business intelligence domain expert to Business, Operations and IT teams, and external parties, if required
• Provide analytics technical guidance to the System Architects and IT Development or Business Systems Support Teams

The key responsibilities for the Analytics and Business Intelligence Architect include:

• Build and maintain an in-depth understanding of IT and business process and products across Claims and IT
• Manage IT business intelligence and analytics architecture in accordance with Corporate IT standards and methodologies
• Responsible for providing technical coaching of Analytics and Business Intelligence to developers on the most complex aspects of individual BI projects
• Establishment and enforcement of a concise series of technical standards for the deliverables of individual projects, as well as code inspections for the key technical aspects within these projects
• Work with business leaders to establish long-term technology planning for business intelligence and claim analytics platform and objectives
• Provide technical guidance to the Systems Architects during the design phase
and BI Development Teams during the analysis, development and testing processes
• Provide technical input into the development of project initiation documents, including definition of objectives, scope, approach and deliverables
• Guide the selection of the hardware and software components the application will use for implementation and provide instruction on how to appropriately implement the application components using the respective hardware and software
• Conduct analysis of recommended processes and technologies to determine and validate the architecture needs for different system environments for IT; review and approve architectural designs if necessary
• Identify and communicate business, application and technical risks associated with application implementation
• Provide technical guidance and expertise for the development of large scale projects that involve IT and/or Corporate IT architecture
• Participate in IT-wide architecture working groups to stay current on the latest technology solutions and to ensure the proposed solutions are aligned to the current and future Corporate IT objectives

Required Qualifications & Experience

The “ideal” Analytics & Business Intelligence Architect will have the following:

• Bachelor's Degree (required) or Master's Degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
• 7-10 years of Architecture and relevant IT and business/industry work experience
• Proven experience in serving as an expert to system architects, developers and/or application support analysts
• Proven experience in online analytical processing, analytics, data mining, business performance management, benchmarking, text mining, and predictive analytics.
• Detailed knowledge of the following:
o Cognos database software and underlying structures
o SAS modeling software
o Text mining approaches, techniques and applicable software
o Informatica and ETL tools
o SQL language and complex data access procedures
• Experience with database and data analysis technology
• Strong understanding of IT environments, technologies in relation to business needs
• Proven practical experience with analysis and/or support to business processes
• Proven leadership experience in managing client relationships (internal/external)
• Strong project management skills, including ability to execute and prioritize a number of tasks simultaneously
• Experience in initiating, conducting and facilitating discussions with multiple stakeholders, and ability to translate the results and issues at hand to the business and to the IT teams
• Excellent written/verbal communication and strong interpersonal/relationship management skills

Technical Acumen should also include:

• Experience preparing large data sets and developing utility programs for text mining and the various stages of predictive modeling processes (preferably in SAS), following best practices
• Experience developing code for ETL processes leveraging industry technologies (preferably Informatica) following best practices
• Experience developing code for a rich user experience leveraging industry technologies (preferably Cognos), following best practices
• Proven capability to teach Business Intelligence development techniques and the decision rules how to apply them.
• Proven experience in online analytical processing, analytics, data mining, business performance management, benchmarking, text mining, and predictive analytics.
• Thorough understanding of the latest trends in data warehouse and business intelligence technologies
