PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
2001 – 2005 MyPoints.com/ UAL Loyalty Services (ULS) /United Airlines (UAL) Through the acquisition of MyPoints.com by ULS, the merger of technology teams, and a management reorganization, I was transitioned from MyPoints.com to UAL Loyalty Services (Subsidiary of UAL Corp), and then to United Airlines.
Manager – Storage Utility Services 9/2004 – 4/2005 Chosen to direct all enterprise information storage-related services. Responsible for Tape and Disk SAN configuration, provisioning, backup and recovery services for over 180 TB of disk storage, serving more than 400 UNIX and 14 mainframe–based applications serving the entire corporation.
Implemented and managed projects for tape and disk SAN consolidations, resulting in vastly more stable, scalable and supportable environments, and a 35+% decrease in SAN based incidents.
Revitalized UAL backup infrastructure, increasing successful backup rate from 68 to 99.99+%.
Saved over $4 million and increasing performance by over 40% by consolidating storage resources, establishing standards and implemented changes to optimally leverage storage architecture. Director – Database Services 1/2002 – 9/2004 Selected to merge the DBA teams and operations from ULS and MyPoints.com and provide leadership for the expanded database-related services for this subsidiary of UAL Corporation.
Effectively supported the $2 billion annual E-business of United Airlines systems serving United.com, UAL’s campaign management and analysis, and MileagePlus, as well as other customer and demographically marketed and loyalty-based initiatives.
Mentored, established training plans, coordinated activities, managed performance, and developed budgets for a team of 8 Database Administrators charged with maintaining coordinated support for over 85 databases, comprising over 42 terabytes of data in a web-based, multi-tier environment, and providing core and full-cycle database related guidance and support. Led database team to obtain an “Excellent” rating in a Meta Group study of all IT operations at United and its subsidiaries.
Reduced core support costs by $1.8 million (35%) in 2004 by implementing a corporate data archive strategy that will yield a projected 5-year additional savings of $7.8 million.

Manager – Database Services 1/2001 – 1/2002 Recruited and directed a 6-member database systems team; provided support for the online e-marketing company that commanded the #3 spot in the world for clicks in 2000, and gained the attention of UAL Corporation, who needed this e-marketing expertise for their comprehensive e-business strategies.
Developed training plans, intra-team mentoring policies and practices to create a cross-trained database organization capable of providing all core and full-cycle application development support operating in multiple n-tier, on-line, OLTP and Data Warehouse application environments.
Eliminated 100% of problems plaguing daily system preparation and replication schedules through use of available tools, and proactive monitoring and remediation.
1995 - 2000 Ameritech, Inc./SBC Corporation, Chicago, IL Manager – Database Administration Directed database services for the Public Communications Division of Ameritech/SBC comprising over 2 terabytes of data.
Built OLTP database and data warehouse infrastructures from scratch, performed and managed the core and development support and activities for the entire public communications division, delivering over 99.85% availability and servicing over 12 million transactions per day.
Recruited additional Database Administrator, and managed DBA duties between two DBAs, satisfying the needs of increased business activity.
Upon merger of Ameritech and SBC, coordinated consolidation of database operations of 4 separate companies located throughout the US.
Teamed with System Administrator to develop strategy to mitigate the risk of more than $250,000 daily revenue loss in the event of system failure by pioneering the advanced use of new storage technologies.
