SPRING MOUNTAIN CAPITAL, LP (SMC), New York, NY 2005 to Present
SMC is an investment management firm specializing in alternative investments and advisory services for both broad asset allocations and/or focused portfolios (such as fixed income, equities, hedge funds, private equity) - $2.2B in assets. Aozora Bank (Tokyo) entered into a joint venture hedge fund investment effort with SMC in 2005.

Investment Associate

Promoted and finalized Aozora Bank/SMC joint venture hedge fund investment effort as Joint General Manager, Fund Investment Division. As a result, assumed role as Investment Associate of SMC to perform due diligence on existing and potential sourcing fund managers, manage existing hedge fund portfolios, and provide advisement on key elements of the investment decision making process of Aozora-SMC Alternative Strategies Fund, Ltd (“ASASF”) to Tokyo headquarters.

* Planned, negotiated contract, and led implementation of the new JV effort between SMC (New York) and Aozora (Tokyo). Managed ten team members – SMC (three in NY) and Aozora (seven in Tokyo).

* Managed existing hedge fund portfolios within ASASF that had an aggregate value of up to $1.2B. Built, and consistently monitor, a solid portfolio to weather economic uncertainty.

* Doubled size of, and built a three-year track record for ASASF portfolio. Continuously sought out for expertise in the investment decision making process for this fund.

* Wrote and published weekly risk management and ASASF performance measurement reports. Authored progressive-minded reports that analyzed past results and discussed future risk – used in decision-making by Aozora bank management.

AOZORA BANK, Tokyo, Japan 2002 to 2005

Joint General Manager, Fund Investment Division (2005)

Chosen by the Chairman to lead Hedge Fund investment activities for the Fund Investment Division of Aozora Bank in Tokyo. Charged with further doubling size of the portfolio from $750M to $1.5B. Traveled frequently to New York to consult with Senior Managers of funds, and ultimately relocated to the US to lead JV with Spring Mountain Capital. Managed five team members. Reported directly to the Vice Chairman.

* Led initiative in the direct fund investment process for development of 1) a liquid non-JPY fund portfolio and 2) an illiquid fund portfolio for any currencies. Set up the managerial strategy, aligned strategy to market outlook, performed due diligence, and reported/presented to the Investment Committee.

* Chosen by bank leadership to represent Aozora in JV initiative with Spring Mountain Capital. Assumed role with SMC in October 2005.

Joint General Manager, Credit Products Division (2003 to 2005)

Promoted to direct the investment management side to during a move to expand the bank’s earning power.
Led all direct investment activities in hedge funds and structured finance products, following a transition

* Spearheaded creation and presentation of two proposals to Chairman of the Bank, 1) non-JPY investment plan, and 2) a new Investment Committee that exploited opportunities in US bank loans and promoted nimbleness in investments. Upon approval of investment group, hired six internal team members. Decision making rights were maintained by the investment committee.

* Built and managed the bank’s initial core hedge fund portfolio from zero to $750M.

* Reviewed relationships and grew solid partnerships with fund managers in the US and abroad.

Deputy General Manager, Derivatives & Structured Finance Division (2003)
Manager, Direct Marketing Group, Derivative & Structured Finance (2002 to 2003)

Joined Aozora to assist in the re-growth and turnaround of long term banks in Japan following Asian financial crisis. Began role as product manager and direct marketing liaison selling internal assets to regional clients (banks), a profitable approach to investment sales. Used derivatives product knowledge to develop appealing products. Success led to promotion to Deputy General Manager in 2003 with responsibility for six team members, including Group Senior Manager.

* Originated employment of Aozora’s assets on the balance sheet to develop financial products. This promoted balance sheet efficiency.

* Built a reputation for Aozora with regional banks as a provider of attractive, customized investments to diversify risks.

* Led direct marketing of business with investor clients to provide them with investment products and problem solutions services. The three main services included:

* CDS products including CDS and Basket Credit Linked Loans (First to Default, Linear Basket)

Promoted to head of bond sales to lead all activities associated with marketing, primarily, structured bonds to regional banks and public pension funds using my established client and internal network. * Oversaw Shinkin Banks and Federations of Japan Agricultural Banking Cooperatives, active investors in structured Euro Medium-Term Notes targeting development of agricultural banking sector.

Vice President, Head of Derivatives Direct Marketing Group – Global Markets, Tokyo (1997 to 2001)

As head of market derivatives, worked in close coordination and cooperation with the Capital Markets Group in London on a daily basis for the best sourcing of issuers of Euro Medium Term Notes and Syndication transactions.

* Spearheaded JP Morgan’s first-ever effort to gain direct access to regional banks and corporations that were recognized as aggressive buyers of investment instruments for yield enhancement.

* Set direct marketing strategies for potential new investors, and established successful relationships with many regional players.

* Led two teams – investor derivatives marketing and fixed-income salesmen for full direct client coverage with enhanced product knowledge and credibility.

* Sold structured fixed-income products and other derivatives related products to Non-Life Insurance Financial Institutions.

* Succeeded in selling a balance sheet type, synthetic CDO, which had been marketed in Japan for the first time. Sold more than half of the total amount issued, primarily to Fund Managers.

Vice President, Corporate Derivatives, JP Morgan Securities-Asia, Tokyo (1994 to 1997)

Led marketing in derivatives business for risk management solutions, targeting primarily corporations. Directed currency swap transactions in response to market changes. Acquired broader product knowledge and application that included numerous pricing models, business cycles length, and the hands on understanding that currency swap transactions require extended periods of time and a deeper knowledge of the interest rate and derivative market on the corporate side.

* Sold Interest Rate Swaps, Yen loan products, Asset & Liability Management structures, and MTNs, mainly to prosperous manufacturing and pharmaceutical companies – a new area of business for JP Morgan.

* Built relationships with the London market (Euro Medium-Term Notes). Communicated daily to secure suitable funding targets to match pricing for investors.

* Increased business with Japanese asset management and fund management companies who became active investors, especially in structured notes and FX Options.

* Led new business development thrust and expanded business to a new client base of Japanese Government Agencies, who used interest rate and currency swaps for a variety of hedging purposes.

Evaluating risks through review of the options traders’ book, constantly developed trade ideas. Developed solutions to present to FX sales team for use with clients. Captured more than 30% of the market share business with Life Insurance Companies in Japan. Created strategy that limited clients’ exposure to US dollar and provided zero transaction cost and silent execution.
