2007 – Present Major US Investment Bank, New York, NY Director – Derivative Products
I joined in the team in November of 2007 with a broad mandate to develop equity and fund linked products and provide customized investment solutions for our Americas based institutional and high net worth clients. The team soon became a multi-asset class derivative product team managing retail structured products origination and distribution across asset classes, and the institutional product structuring team for hybrid, fund and equity derivatives.
Working across fixed income, equity, commodity and alternative asset derivative platforms, and multiple treasury centers and product delivery vehicles, I manage a regular offering of structured investments, develop long terms savings products and provide tailored solutions to client investment problems. These range from generic products based on thematic investment ideas, and bespoke indices/strategies designed to meet broad based client investment objectives to solutions driven products designed to address particular client diversification, liquidity, tax, risk hedging and long term savings needs.
I manage the legal, tax, accounting and operational infrastructure for these products including the establishment of a local fund vehicle in Brazilian and the product origination effort for our Brazilian and Mexican issuance vehicles which target institutional and retail investors with tax efficient derivative based investments linked to local and off-shore equity, fixed income, foreign exchange and commodities markets.
My clients are our US and Latin American based derivative product sales teams covering institutional buy side investors, high net worth private clients and retail distribution platforms.
2003 – 2007 Major European Bank, New York, NY
2006 – 2007 Senior Vice President & Manager Global Structured Fund Products
I managed distributive structured fund product (“DSFP”) marketing and customized fund linked investment product solutions businesses for the Americas. I had a duel reporting line to our US based global head of sales and UK based head of Global Structured Fund Products (“GSFP”).
DSFP’s are derivative investment products based on actively managed funds, customized indices, and investment strategies. I structured, marketed and originated new products, sourced new product underlyings and created the necessary product delivery infrastructure. My team was a small structuring / marketing team with an internal coverage mandate encompassing all Americas based sales teams. With limited US distribution, our efforts were largely concentrated on Latin America and Canada.
We covered institutional investors, wealth managers, third party retail product distributors, insurance companies and investment banks in Latin America, the US, and Canada. Underlying our product offerings were our flagship emerging market equity and fixed income funds, a branded long/short rules based commodities index, hedge fund of funds, hedge fund indices and proprietary actively managed strategies. We provided customized solutions to multiple client investment objectives including tax efficiency, market access, principal protection and leverage in the form of notes, swaps and OTC options.
As a producing manager, my average yearly net revenues were USD 10 million. GSFP was a global business headquartered in London, with its principal business units operating in NY, London and Hong Kong. In 2007, GSFP generated over USD 100 million in revenues.
2003 – 2006 Senior Vice President Derivatives & Structured Products, Americas
I joined the multi-asset class structured products team in January of 2003 with responsibility for the structuring and marketing of derivative products across our international wealth management franchise and third party Latin American distribution channels. I structured, marketed and provided product education on variety of distributive and customized derivative investment products (i.e. Hedge Fund, Equity, Interest Rate, Credit, Foreign Exchange, and Hybrid derivative products) generating revenue growth of 40% in my first year. My successful structuring and marketing of several hedge fund derivative products collectively raising over USD 250 million for hedge fund of funds prompting my recruitment by GSFP to lead the 2006 Americas effort.
2002 – 2003 Temporary project consultant.
2000 – 2001 Lehman Brothers Inc., New York, NY Vice President – Structured Credit Trading (“SCT”)
I joined the emerging markets credit derivatives team with a customized solutions and structured credit investment product creation and marketing mandate. I worked with Lehman's global institutional, corporate, dedicated fund, and high net worth accounts.
Structured solutions were focused on tax, balance sheet, capital and regulatory issues associated to client investing, structured financing, debt capital markets, inter-company funding, securitization, divestiture, and M & A activities. The solutions involved a series of interrelated transactions that capitalize on credit derivative and cash/synthetic repackaging technology and/or the opportunistic use of tax treaties (i.e., tax sparing).
Structured investment transactions were based on Latin American credit exposures which included the negotiation of private placements with issuers domiciled in tax treaty jurisdictions, the repackaging of credit obligations on both a cash and synthetic basis, obtaining shadow ratings, and the embedding of credit default swaps, and credit and currency options into structured notes. Products forms included: leveraged notes and swaps; credit and currency derivative embedded notes; principal protected notes; first to default baskets; asset swap packages; and credit synthetic/cash based repackaging. Client objectives were diverse and included: yield enhancement; tax advantaged investment; portfolio management; and the monetization of illiquid credit assets. Monetization transactions included the synthetic and cash based repackaging of vendor receivables, Paris Club debt, future tax co-participation payments, and future hydrocarbon royalties. The structuring these transactions utilized traditional cash flow modeling and securitization technologies, and coupled these with derivative transactions to generate investment securities for private and institutional investors.
Effected by the September 11th crises, my activities were downsized.
