Branded HFV from a small “family office” organization with little name recognition, into an institutional hedge fund of funds organization with a recognizable name spanning the US and Europe. This was done through a systematic approach to managing assets and overseeing risk, marketing to investors and consultants.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
• Aggressively developed and implemented strategic initiatives, created budgets, managed personnel, and administered institutional business development and client services driving growth and profitability.
• Searched and identified potential hedge fund investment opportunities, and astutely negotiated and executed transactions with hedge fund firms, garnering an equity stake or revenue share in return for providing seed capital and other services, increasing the number of hedge funds within the firm’s stable from 4 to 9 in two years.
• Managed $300M Multi-Strategy hedge fund of funds, and $100M Multi-Strategy hedge fund of funds, and made HFV institutional through due process. Charged with, and exceeded meeting 10 new hedge fund managers each month. Exhaustive due diligence of their organization resulted in a determination of acceptance or denial of funding investment produced sound fiscal decisions. Personal handling of all transactions and negotiations with hedge funds in which we held a stake or revenue share propelled reliability and market positioning on a multi-national level.
• Eliminated roadblocks impacting performance and growth by mentoring and educating 25 key employees including Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel, Accounting Manager, Head Risk Manager and support personnel to achieve greatest potential.

Managing Director - Head of US Institutional Sales Optima Fund Management, LLC, New York, NY, (2002 – 2005)
Led institutional business development in the United States with this firm employing 25 team members, and assets under management of $3B. Optima managed several hedge funds of funds including long/short equity, futures, and sector-specific funds and had revenue sharing arrangement with several direct hedge funds, for which it provided institutional and high net worth marketing support.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
• Created highly effective marketing material for existing and prospective clients designed to drive sales and establish strong working relationships.
• Aggressively marketed the firm’s hedge funds of funds and direct hedge funds to large endowment and foundation investors, corporate and public pensions and institutional consulting firms.
• Identified and presented new marketing opportunities and innovative ideas to Managing Partner to gain market share. (Examples include new direct hedge funds to consider marketing and new hedge funds of funds strategies sought by investors). Senior Vice President Putnam Investments, Boston, MA, (2000 – 2001)
Drove institutional business development, created and presented customized solutions during consultations that increased revenues by more than $2M in first four months of employment. As one of the largest traditional investment management firms in the world, Putnam catered to both institutional and retail investors with $300B of assets under management and revenues over $2B. KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
• Marketed products including: US Large Cap Growth Equity, US Large Cap Value Equity, US Mid Cap Growth Equity, US Small Cap Growth Equity, US Small Cap Value Equity, US Private Equity, International Core Equity, International Large Cap Growth Equity, International Aggressive Growth Equity, International Large Cap Value Equity, and Emerging Markets Equity to large market corporate and public pension, endowment and foundations clients in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US.
• Managed existing client base with approximately $3B of assets invested in Putnam and identified additional investment management needs through cross-selling and performing monthly and quarterly performance reviews.
Vice President Independence Investment Associates, Boston, MA, (1997 – 2000)
Developed and implemented marketing strategy for this traditional quantitative investment management firm that catered to large market institutional clients including pensions, endowments, foundations and unions that held $30B of assets under management. Substantially added to the company’s growth by raising an average of $150M in new assets each year primarily from corporate pension clients earning the designation of Top Performing Institutional Marketer.
KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:
• Heightened investment acumen and garnered increased revenue by identifying and analyzing potential new investment products to offer to existing clients to address market changes and client needs.
