THE SCHWAN FOOD COMPANY, Marshall MN 2000 – to present SR. DIRECTOR CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT AND CFO SCHWAN’S VENTURE GROUP (2005 - to present) – Promoted to this position responsible for all aspects of Corporate development activity for the $3 - $4 billion parent company. - Lead successful acquisition of Holiday Foods and T&N Foods and provided support to disposition of Explore Information Services. Heavily involved in integration activities for acquired companies.
- Maintained deal-flow via contacts with investment banking community and calling directly on Owners and CEO’s of target companies.
- Evaluated 40 - 50 acquisition opportunities each year. - As CFO of Schwan’s Venture Group responsible for accounting, budgeting, financial reporting and analysis of acquired companies in multiple locations. Supervised staff of eight (8) finance and accounting staff.
DIRECTOR OF NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT – EXPLORE INFORMATION SERVICES (2000 – 2005) Lead Business Development efforts at this Schwan’s subsidiary providing underwriting information and database services to the insurance industry and state governments. New product development efforts included market research, product development, business planning and commercialization. Responsible for divisional Merger and Acquisition activity. - Launched three major new products for insurance and transportation segments.
- Identified, negotiated and closed acquisition of Colorado Information Network Services (CINS) providing basis for three new product areas for government services segment. - P&L responsibility for two government programs with the state of Colorado and the State of New Mexico and managed company Quality Assurance function.
- Supervised staff of fourteen (14).
ECOLAB, St. Paul, MN 1997 – 2000 CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – Reporting directly to Sr. VP of Corporate Development and Strategic Planning performed strategic analysis, target identification, financial analysis, due diligence, contract negotiation and integration planning. Key team accomplishments include:
- Acquisition of GCS Service, Inc, Metro Commercial Service, ARR/CRS, Stove Parts Supply and Peterson’s Commercial Parts and Service creating $100M+ kitchen equipment service division.
- Acquisition of Blue Coral Systems and Grace-Lee products creating $45M+ vehicle wash products division.
- Participated in either lead or support role in 14 successful transactions in a 3.5 year period.
S. C. JOHNSON WAX, Racine, WI 1991 – 1997 BUSINESS FINANCIAL MANAGER (1996 –1997) Controller for $400M+ division marketing a full range of air care products under the Glade Brand name.
- Facilitated short and long range strategic planning and budgeting.
- Co-Authored and assisted in implementation of business plans for new business initiatives, which provided over $100M of sales growth.
- Made pricing recommendations and spearheaded cost reduction efforts that improved gross margins by four to five percent of net sales.
- Supervised staff to ensure accuracy of month-end and year-end financial statements.
BUSINESS INFORMATION CONSULTANT (1994 - 1995) – Cross-functional role as internal business decision consultant within Market Research function.
- Developed new systems and applications to analyze syndicated market research and financial data.

- Received Officers Award for role in Asia Pacific product sourcing project.
- Lead user in major implementation of new manufacturing information system.
- Supervised staff of two to ensure accuracy of standard product costs.
- Performed projected cost of sales analysis for acquisition of Windex, Drano and Vanish Brands. Facilitated development of capital plans, expense budgets and product costs for several hundred products in a three month time period.
