Business Controller US Automotive Division 2003 – 2004 Reporting to the Business Leader I had financial accountability for the North American businesses, with revenues in excess of $50Million, and their 3 manufacturing plants, including 1 in Mexico.
* Implemented company profitability reporting tool (Hyperion Intelligence / BRIO)
Cost Project Leader, Europe 2002-2003 Financial leader of a pan European team which implemented an integrated cost and profitability reporting system. (Financial modules of an ERP system). Led a team of 4 ex-patriots and 30 plus local controllers and industrial engineers, from 6 countries.
* Replaced 5 separate absorption-costing systems with 1 integrated system. * Integrated cost, sales, inventory, variance, transfer pricing and profitability systems to ensure accuracy and reliability. Enabled profitability reporting at both the country GAAP and company wide levels. * Automated production of profitability reporting at product and customer level. * Established inter company transfer pricing policy which drove better internal decision making, higher capacity utilization and increased business. * On time implementation for 17 European locations, in 6 countries. * Trained in excess of 60 financial & non-financial managers in use of ABC system and reports. Financial Controller, England 2001-2002 Promoted into large recently acquired UK automotive supplier with remit to implement parent company policy, improve management-reporting capabilities and eliminate financial team turnover.
* Led a team of 8, including Financial Accounting, Industrial Engineering and Cost Accounting. * Developed correct product costs, enabling management for the first time, to understand product profitability. * Implemented parent company balance sheet policies, highlighting potential tax write-offs of $500,000.

* Jointly completed annual rating and ranking of all European financial associates. * Led company initiative on activity based costing and inventory reduction, resulting in $500,000 of annual savings and 10% reduction in inventory days. Ran the quarterly European Executive meetings. * Consolidated and explained the European manufacturing results for company board level review. * Conducted process mapping on existing cost systems resulting in over 40 improvement recommendations * Conducted multi country capital expenditure analysis. Led to implementation of a profitable investment by a major customer and saved company investing in what was an unprofitable investment for them. Enhanced customer relationship. * Stepped in for 3 months with the European business on a part-time basis as acting Controller, whilst maintaining the division cost leader function, as they searched for a replacement. Plant controller, South East USA 1998-2000 On strength of plant manager’s request I was promoted into controller position of one of the largest plants in the company, (revenue $200Million plus). This plant was a broadloom and tile carpet finishing plant. Led a team of 7, encompassing: payroll, accounting control, supply room, fixed assets, inventory and forecasting.
* Identified over $1 Million of excess accruals which went straight to the bottom line. * Consolidated and explained the Division variances and fixed cost for the Manufacturing Director
Cost Leader, South East 1997-1998 Managed 7 ledgers within Floor Covering Division. Total revenue in excess of $200Million
* Worked with industrial engineering, plant controller and IS to remove $1.5 Million inventory variance opportunity (5% of cost of sales) in one ledger. Eventually reduced this variance to 0.2% of cost of sales.
