PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE THE JOHNSSON GROUP, 2001-Present (Financial & Accounting Consultants) Consultant Projects I have participated in have included: Financial reporting / general ledger system conversion review project for a $40M manufacturing business. Project outcomes included the identification of $500K of financial reporting opportunities and recommendations to improve the ongoing accuracy of their accounting process. Financial planning project for a $600M manufacturing business. Project outcomes included the creation of an analysis that analyzed the effect of economic events and business initiatives on production costs. The identification of these costs enabled my client to make modifications to planned initiatives that resulted in a savings of $2.3M.
W.W. Grainger, Inc., 1980-2001 MATERIAL LOGIC CORPORATION, 2000-2001 (e-Business start-up of W.W. Grainger) Controller Charged with creating a privately held corporation from four W.W. Grainger subsidiaries. · Combined the accounting operations of four business units into one $200M business, using a common ERP system. · Led a cross-functional team that selected and implemented a new, more efficient payroll and human data system with a resulting cost savings of $60K per year. · Developed a cash management system, which permitted the company to accurately estimate its financing needs. · Participated in the selection of an external auditing firm.
GRAINGER CUSTOM SOLUTIONS, 1998-2000 (Start-up business unit of W.W. Grainger) Controller Full responsibility for the design and operation of all accounting and financial functions, including participation with cross-functional teams in recommending, designing, implementing, and testing ERP system enhancements. · Designed and managed a billing process to efficiently accommodate $400 million annual sales. Cost Accounting Manager Aside from all accounting responsibilities monitored product pricing (on a daily basis) for transactions with unusual gross margins, and analyzed gross margin variances resulting from business events and changes in product mix, selling price mix, and supplier prices. · Led team that reduced branch expenses associated with inventory cycle counting by $1.3M and helped determine the root causes of inventory shortages. · Improved the accounting and reporting of transportation costs, thereby enabling more effective management that resulted in a 1.0 percentage point savings as a percent of sales. · Enabled Management to increase inventory turns by 15% by reducing on-hand inventory by improving purchasing procedures.
