CFO – Served as top financial officer of this digital, out-of-home start up to deploy advertising screens in high-traffic areas in several different vertical segments in China and other high-density markets in Asia. Part of founding management team, along with several high profile media veterans. Have participated in strategy formulation, financial projections, generation of IM (information memo) and negotiations with investor community.
Grey Global Group, Asia 2000 – 2007
CFO – Asia Pacific - Held Grey’s highest finance post in Asia overseeing 50 advertising and communication operations in 17 countries (including China and India), with annual turnover in excess of US$600.0 million and with 1,600 employees. Led business development, corporate finance, financial reporting, variance analysis, treasury, tax, audit (including SOX compliance), legal, cost management and containment and controllership duties for entities in general advertising, below the line (BTL), media planning and buying, interactive and CRM disciplines.
• Produced significant profit turnaround for Grey during tenure.
• Led business-development effort by carrying out identification, analysis, financial due diligence and integration of candidates/targets. In addition, I oversaw the establishment of several new entities in the region in strategically important markets including Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam.
• Responsible for cost accounting on a client- by-client basis and led assessment effort to maximize profitability from our clients, within country units and for region as a whole.
• Assisted in the development of Grey’s operational strategy in Asia, along with CEO of Asia Pacific and Worldwide management.
• Executed several JV arrangements with large media-buying entity which generated significant operating profit.
• Responsible for maintenance of regional entity as well as individual country operations.
Grey Global Group 1997 - 2000
Director of Internal Audit - Managed Grey’s internal audit function reporting directly to CFO. Executed risk assessment in cooperation with senior management and carried out audit program of financial, operational, EDP, and fraud related engagements.
• Conducted financial acquisition due diligence for acquired entities in the United States, Asia, Europe and Latin America as member of Grey’s in-house investment banking function.
• Conducted investigations related to fraud perpetrated at subsidiary in Mexico, which led to recovery of US$500.0 thousand from insurance carrier.
McCann Erickson North America (subsidiary of the Interpublic Group) 1990 - 1997
VP, Budgets and Financial Analysis – Directed business development effort for this top 3 communications company as well as overseeing monthly consolidation and financial reporting of unit with 20 subsidiaries and annual turnover of US$1.8 billion.
Directed P&L variance analysis for subsidiaries and departments. Had reporting responsibilities to parent, senior financial management and senior operational management.
• Conducted financial analysis of potential acquisition candidates, review draft contracts of transactions, oversaw acquisition due diligence of target and oversaw integration of new entities.
• Oversaw compilation of detail revenue and expense budget data during quarterly budget cycles including analysis of data using IMRS consolidation system.
