Job Title: i5/OS and z/OS Sr. Systems Engineer; Team Leader; Full Time ; Job Location: St Petersburg/Fl Or Toronto, Canada Or El Dorado Hills
Major Firm; IMMEDIATE NEED This position will be reporting to the IT Manager for Systems Engineering within the Infrastructure Platform Engineering department and working with IPE (Infrastructure Platform Engineering) Technical Architects and Global Operations team in a lead position. Primary responsibilities include design and engineering along with Tier3 support for i5/OS and z/OS systems as well as solution and implementation support for a wide variety of engineering projects. Extensive background in IBM mainframe and AS400 systems required as well as working knowledge of storage systems and data replication using SRDF, secure external file protocol using Connect Enterprise. This position requires very strong written, verbal, and leadership skills. As a senior position this person will be expected to review, mentor, and assist other members of the engineering team. The Sr Systems Engineer will represent engineering in collaborative projects with operations, network, applications and other IT groups. Engineerings role is to analyze, design and make recommendations for the infrastructure and application projects to be implemented by the operations and application groups. This person will be required to evaluate new hardware and software and make recommendations often with several different options. Clients data processing environment consists of 1800 server across four large datacenters and several regional computer rooms with a combined storage capacity over 1 petabyte. The server infrastructure consists of: IBM Mainframe, iSeries/AS400, Intel hardware running Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, RedHat Linux 4 & 5 on standalone and virtual servers, builds, Solaris 8, 9 and 10 currently running on standalone hardware with plans to introduce Solaris 10 on Logical Domains (LDOM), AIX 5.2, 5.3 and 6.1 and plans to introduce VIO and PowerVm. The storage environment consists on EMC SAN (DMX, Clariion), NetApp NAS/SAN on FAS3140 and FAS3020 and EMC Centera. Responsibilities Design and recommend infrastructure, tools, procedures and documentation Work with Capacity Management team to produce capacity reports for i5 & zOS systems. Serves as a focal point and work with all IT teams Continuous improvement and atomization of i5/OS and AS400, there by reducing TCO- (Total Cost of Ownership) while expanding capabilities. Performs application and server modeling Tier 3 support and root-cause analysis of system issues Skills & Experience Systems Programming experience on z/OS mainframes; HCD, WLM, RACF, JES2, TCPIP, Assembler, RMM, CICS, DB2, MQ Series, IMS, Sysplex, SAS/MXG, Barr i5/OS systems experience including; iASP storage pools, BRMS, DB2 UDB, Performance Navigator, Performance Tools, AJS, Websphere LPAR configuration and setup for POWER servers; PowerVM, VIOS, HMC Proficient in developing scripts to perform custom logging and analysis, where appropriate (REXX, SAS, Cobol) EMC storage tools; SRDF, TimeFinder, Control Center Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to convey complex information and comfortable in the delivery of materials and presentations to Senior management Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills Ability to work within a global and distributed team Other desirable skills Proficient in developing scripts to perform custom logging and analysis, where appropriate (Perl, UNIX shell, Power Shell) Understanding of mid-range servers and operating systems utilizing the following technologies: SUN E and T series LDOMS and containers, IBM AIX, RedHat Linux, Windows, IBM Blade Centers/Servers, Vmware ITIL Foundation V3 certification At least 7 years in a similar position Possible domestic/North America travel
