THE COMPANY:
Encompass Digital Media Inc. (EDM), is not only the leading digital media service provider in the U.S., but is growing rapidly outside of the U.S. The firm owns and operates broadcast facilities in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York City (metro area) in the U.S., along with facilities in the UK and Singapore. Encompass serves networks and broadcasters, sports leagues, general entertainment cable channels, television stations, cable and satellite entities, and governments.
The firm offers network channel origination services, such as master control and engineering, automation systems, on-air graphics, quality control, satellite/fiber/IPTV distribution, satellite platforms, network backhauls/live insertions via teleport, and disaster recovery.
The company also provides centralcasting services, including ingest and QC of customer media; redundant playout architecture supported by UPS and diesel power generator; dedicated fiber transmission with satellite backup; live event switching and break rolls; FCC emergency alert compliance; and the retransmission of D2 feeds.
Additionally, EDM offers distribution and delivery services, which include satellite uplink trucks, fiber network, end-to-end backhaul coordination, IP via satellite, and equipment collocation; and government solutions, such as SATCOM, disaster recovery, rapid deployment, mobile units, VOD, and production studios, as well as IP voice, data, and video. Further, the company provides digital media services, which include: digital media infrastructure and media manipulation services, cable neighborhood platform, digital media encoding, emergency communication, and video production services.
In December, 2011, Court Square Partners acquired a majority stake in the company.
In 2011, EDM generated sales in excess of $600mm and now employs over 1,000 people globally. Atlanta, GA is its largest concentration of staff, with 300 persons employed.
MANAGEMENT TEAM:
EDM’s senior leadership team includes: Mr. Simon Bax, Chairman/CEO and Mr. Bill Tillson, COO/President. Both Messrs. Bax and Tillson have over 25 years of experience in the broadcast and media industry. Significantly, the bulk of the senior leadership team has comparable depth in the industry, and are considered expert in their functional areas. Long, continuous service is typical at EDM with 15 years being the average tenure of the management team.
LOCATION OF ROLE/TRAVEL:
This position can be based in either New York City/Connecticut, or Atlanta, GA. You should anticipate ~50% travel (both domestic and international) as being required for successful execution of this role.
THE POSITION:
As Chief Technology Officer, you will report to the COO/President, and be in a “mission critical” role with principal responsibility as primary architect of EDM’s technology strategy and its implementation, execution and enhancement. Reporting to you will be the senior Head of Engineering/Operations at each of the 5 EDM facilities and a total staff of ~300 people. Examples of assignments include:
-- With COO, recruiting new senior engineering/ operations executives as required
-- Overseeing Encompass vendor relationships including:
* With the COO, determining which technologies Encompass will utilize in its core
businesses.
* With the COO, being accountable for investigating, purchasing and implementing new
technologies globally
* Coordinating, managing and administering Encompass global technology purchases to
maximize Encompass/vendor relationships
* Managing and administering Encompass vendor maintenance agreements
* With COO, negotiating and managing Encompass satellite and fiber vendor relationships
* With COO and CFO, developing and managing the Encompass equipment capital budgets
-- With COO, develop and update Encompass’s 3-5 year business plan for:
* Key vendor relationships/ joint ventures/ partnerships
* Technologies that Encompass utilizes for its existing services and products
* Emerging technology opportunities that Encompass can utilize to create new services and
products
-- With COO, manage key customer technology relationships, including issues related to:
* EDM technology service issues
* New customer services
* Technology customer transition issues
-- Interface with senior Encompass Sales and Digital Media executives to develop applicable
technology applications for Encompass customers and pricing models for new customer
services
-- Interface with Encompass Government Services and Encompass IT to develop, implement
and execute security standards, procedures and policies for all Encompass technologies
-- Develop and oversee Encompass’ strategy for representation in major industry technology
groups, associations, etc. |
