Position Description

Client Overview

Our client is a leading global insurance company with a strong track record of profitable growth and leading market positions in the segments it serves. It is a top ten US insurance firm, a Fortune 250 organization, and recognized as one of the “America’s Most Admired” firms with about $15 billion in revenues.

Their Claims function is well recognized as a top quality organization and has recently reorganized creating new roles. There is an immediate need for a Claims Business Analyst to join this top ten property casualty insurer. The position is located conveniently in an attractive New York City suburb.

Position Summary

The Claims Business Analyst is responsible for leading medium to large sized, moderately to highly complex projects, focused on business process, products and business strategies to drive people, process and technology solutions to business issues. These solutions will have a heavy emphasis on Claims performance metrics, analytics, inventory segmentation, and predictive modeling.

Key responsibilities include:

• Scope, plan, manage and monitor key business process engineering and functional requirements and deliverables to support technology solutions.
• Work directly with key Claim business leaders and Claim IT CIO and Claim IT to identify and prioritize solutions to people, process and technology issues facing the business, including the development of business cases.
• Work directly with key Claim business leaders and Claim IT to document all business and technical requirements for technology solutions.
• Work directly with Claim organization to drive efforts to leverage and integrate Claim tools, technology and metrics to ensure optimal staff performance.


PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with Claim IT Project Managers, Technical Analysts, and other project team members to define and document functional and technical requirements on complex business projects.
• Partner with the business to analyze feasibility, define and document business requirements and produce functional specifications for significant, large-scale and/or high complexity projects.
• Serve as subject matter expert to major business processes, including claims performance metrics, analytics, inventory segmentation and predictive modeling.
• Provide a lead role in the development of formal business cases, including the recommendation of business priorities with the highest value that are aligned with business and technology strategy, and advise business on options, risks and costs of people, process and technology solutions.
• Analyze emerging trends and work with business and IT leadership to ensure business needs are clearly understood and solutions meet the needs and expectations of the business. When appropriate, question and challenge business teams to understand goals, priorities, and requirements. Facilitate issue resolution and communicate decisions to relevant parties.
• Partner with business and IT leadership to integrate and leverage Claims tools, technologies, and metrics to optimize claim processes, and analyze and communicate organizational impact and potential change management issues of proposed people, process and technology solutions to relevant stakeholders.
• Drive efforts to instill best practices in field and home office managers and supervisors on the usage and interpretation of claim business intelligence and predictive modeling tools.
• Design approaches for effective data capture and ensuring data integrity. Assist in defining the taxonomy for characterizing data elements.

Required Qualifications

The “ideal” Claims Business Analyst will have strong process and predictive modeling experience in the property casualty insurance arena including:
• 10+ years of combined business, team leadership and technology experience
• 5+ years of technology and/or consulting experience including managing client relationships (internal/external)
• Knowledge of CMM and Six Sigma methodologies and standards
• Demonstrated understanding of financial analysis concepts and tools, financial business case development and ROI modeling and measurement
• Clear understanding of IT environments and technologies, including business intelligence tools (Cognos preferred), with experience in eliciting and documenting functional and technical requirements in accordance with corporate best practices
• Deep understanding of, as well as ability to educate others, on property and casualty insurance claims business goals, performance metrics, analytics, and inventory segmentation processes
• Proven experience in process reengineering and business modeling concepts, including ability to solve problems that span business and technology
• Experience in driving the integration of performance metrics, analytics, and/or predictive modeling tools into business processes, resulting in improved strategic decision making, process efficiency, and data value
• Able to build effective relationships with business and IT leadership at all levels, with experience in initiating and facilitating discussions with multiple stakeholders, leading to effective and efficient issue resolution
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong influence and negotiation skills
• Bachelors required. MBA or advanced degree preferred
