Summary New Products plays a play a pivotal role in guiding the future direction and success of the company through two primary functions: 1) commercially assessing new licensing opportunities, merger and acquisitions, discovery collaborations, and other joint venture opportunities; and 2) leading commercialization of pre-phase III and early phase III products in our pipeline.
The ideal candidate will be a leader in company's strategic decision making and portfolio development. They will lead and manage objective in-depth analyses and recommendations on both new product/company opportunities presented to the company and on what future commercial opportunities should the company actively seek. The scope of responsibility assigned to the candidate will be commensurate with their experience and management capability. In principle, they will have key therapeutic areas of commercial and scientific interest for which they are the internal commercial expert, for which they have full comprehension of the commercial, clinical, and scientific competitive future landscape. This position may include work on commercialization of pre-phase III products that are associated with the assigned key therapeutic areas. Additionally, candidates with previous successful track history of managing and developing talent may have direct report responsibility
Job Responsibilities Include
Be the executive resource for commercial and scientific expertise of key therapeutic areas. Build the vision for what these markets might look like five to ten years in the future, including how changes in diagnostics, clinical guidelines, and new therapies, will shape the landscape. Spearhead developing new methods and means of assessing future reimbursement environmental, global values, undefined novel markets, and commercialization needs. Manage the forecasts for future product & company acquisition opportunities, competitive products, and partner sales and profits. Provide fact-based commercial analysis utilizing primary and secondary market research and opinion leader input to support go/no go decisions. Creatively develop alternative strategies, quantifying risks, and forecasting product sales and profits under various scenarios. Present strategic options and recommendations to licensing project team, senior management, and external partners. Develop commercialization plans for new product acquisitions, including ideal product positioning, pricing, reimbursement, pre-marketing and launch plans, life cycle and patent strategies. Recommend the data package required at launch. Further develop options for these products as new go/no go decision points are reached.
Top Candidate Qualities
Bachelors degree required (advanced degree highly preferred.) Ideal candidate (senior director level) will have a minimum of 8 years in business development, new products, or strategic marketing, alternatively, a minimum of 12 years in product management, market research, or R&D project management experience within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. Extensive experience with the drug development process and licensing process is required. Ability to thoroughly analyze market trends, model potential business solutions, interpret market research, and review technical data. Extensive experience in interacting with and presenting to senior executives and presidents of pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies. The ability to work with senior leaders and other cross-functional groups to define complex issues and build consensus around decisions or effectively lead discussion towards decision appropriately reflecting lack of consensus. Exceptional, crisp, persuasive oral and written presentation skills driven by solid business logic. Strong planning and organization skills manifested by ability to lead multiple projects on conflicting and rapidly changing timetables. Expert knowledge of clinical development, regulatory issues, and market dynamics in the pharmaceutical industry. Strong hands-on knowledge of and fluency with pharmaceutical product and market forecasting, P&L statements, and market research. Willingness to work hands on with any element of these processes as needed. Highly creative, self-motivated, and able to independently structure and lead complex analyses. Most importantly, positive, can-do attitude with a strong record of developing and leading solutions to issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to travel up to 25% of the time.
