The Market Development Director will be responsible for starting up (from scratch), building, and driving volume and profitability to a new Specialty/Emerging Market. This will include, research, development of annual operating plans including objectives, marketing and sales strategies, tactics and budget implementation. Individual must have a strong classic Marketing background.
Proven experience building and growing new market segments through leadership and innovation. Must have P&L experience, be an operational master, and have built and run a small business unit. Able to work in a fast paced environment, possess strong critical thinking, business planning and operational skills. Excellent presentation and communication skills are essential success factors. The Market Development Director must also possess a hands-on approach, bias for action, and seen as an innovator. Demonstrated track record of specific actions taken to drive sustainable volume and profits required. Consumer products experience a plus
Key Duties: •Uses field work and market research to create deep intimacy with specialized market needs. •Identifies the players—customers, distributors, potential partners, influencers. •Builds relationships with key market influencers, i.e., early adopter customers, Customer buying centers, thought leader, etc. •Understands and uses the value stream to get product sold and orders fulfilled, looking beyond old models. •Conducts solid analysis of the opportunity and risks. •Generates innovative approaches. •Develops smart strategies that include clear positioning, smart pricing, competitive advantage. •Finds creative paths of low resistance for implementation. •Creates executable plans. •Teams with R & D and Marketing to create new products and programs. •Develops early stage of the market and recommendations and plans for expansion. •Finds outside resources when needed. •Prototypes, refines, validate. •Initiates sales effort. •Participating in marketing alignment and project teams.
