position summary This individual will build relationships across the organization to ensure synergy and alignment while driving accountability consistent with Meijer practices and policies. responsibilities The Director of Human Resources originates and leads the Human Resources practices and objectives that provide a customer-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes leadership, quality, productivity, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce. In this role, the successful candidate will drive divisional and company HR programs and initiatives, including workforce planning and development, organizational change, development of HR tools and resources, facilitation, and performance management practices. This position will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Human Resources Specific tasks include:
Contribute to the development of the organization's strategic plans and objectives Drive HR strategy through creation of Human Resource plans and objectives Drive organizational structure, content of jobs, and establishment of performance standards within the client group. Review and provide guidance on promotional and compensation change decisions. Oversee company-wide and division-wide programs and initiatives (e.g., Talent Review, salary review, benefits, disability management, labor relations, talent acquisition safety and organizational change) within client group. Effectively facilitate restructures, redeployments, and staffing within the client group Manage employee relations issues within the division Ensure comprehensive development and succession plans are in place for key positions. Drive leadership and employee development efforts throughout client groups including leading skills development workshops, encouraging participating in training and development, and working with managers to create development plans Facilitate organization and leadership development efforts. Coach managers and employees on a variety of topics including management skills, professionalism, conflict management, and communications. Influence senior management across the company to clarify and resolve divisional business and communication issues and improve overall organizational effectiveness Responsible for management and development of HR Generalists and other support staff as assigned qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related area required Master's degree in Human Resources or Labor Relations is a plus 10 15 years minimum in Human Resource leadership roles with extensive experience in HR Generalist 10+ years of progressively complex human resources experience required preferably in a retail or CPG environment. 5+ years experience in a leadership/management level role. Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations required. Extensive knowledge of HR policies and practices, compensation and benefits, organization change and effectiveness union/labor experience is a plus Strong leadership skills and experience influencing at senior levels in an organization Ability to work as and be viewed as a trusted business partner to the organization Ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels, within managerial/leadership and non-managerial employee groups. Familiarity with global workforce management issues
