The ideal candidate has experience with and knowledge of transmission system planning, as well as knowledge of western power markets, and demonstrates strong competencies in learning agility, customer focus, political savvy and drive for results. Qualified candidates will have an outstanding track record in successfully leading and managing: transmission system planning; representing a transmission provider on transmission planning and other pertinent issues through participation in regional and national groups; and the asset management responsibilities of a transmission system. The position reports to the Senior Vice President for Transmission Services.
We are seeking a highly qualified, dynamic engineer to lead the Planning and Asset Management organization in the Transmission Services business unit.
The Vice President also serves as the our Chief Engineer.
They will be responsible for providing executive leadership in the planning, development, and administration of programs that ensure the reliable, safe, and competitive operation of a bulk high voltage (500kilovolt) transmission system encompassing approximately 15,000 circuit miles of transmission lines spread throughout four states in the Northwest Region of the United States.
They will be responsible for sustaining this $5 billion dollar system by administering a capital budget of up to $600 million per year.
We provide approximately 50 percent of the energy used in the Region and the transmission grid provides approximately 75 percent of the Region's high voltage capacity.
The Vice President serves as a member of the Executive Management Committee and is a key policy formulator and decision maker for Transmission's strategic planning and asset management strategies.
The position is responsible for providing executive level leadership to approximately 380 permanent and contract employees engaged in performing highly specialized system engineering, planning, and design functions associated with the development and operation of a high voltage interconnected transmission grid and facilities, including two control centers. We are headquartered in Portland, Oregon.
We serves the Pacific Northwest by operating an extensive electric transmission system and marketing wholesale electrical power at cost from federal dams, one non-federal nuclear plant and other nonfederal hydroelectric and wind energy generation facilities.

Technical Qualifications
You must be a registered professional engineer to qualify for this position. You must provide proof of this certification. Also, you must address the following qualifications in your resume or in a separate document.
1. Professional knowledge, experience and ability to apply electrical engineering theories, concepts, practices, and principles associated with system engineering, planning, design, development, and operation of an interconnected extra high voltage (above 230 kilovolt) electrical transmission system sufficient to evaluate, develop, and implement engineering programs. 2. Professional knowledge, experience and ability to apply sound asset management principles and practices to electric utility assets.
3. Knowledge of the wholesale electric utility industry sufficient to evaluate, formulate, and implement strategies and policies to achieve short- and long-term business objectives associated with the safe, reliable, and economically viable operation of a large high voltage transmission system
