Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO) JH10117 Reports to: CEO Location: West Coast
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: The Chief Operations Officer will be a strong number two for the company that will cast a compelling vision for supply chain and operations excellence and drive flawless execution through careful planning, clear communication and continual coaching. In cooperation with Product Development, Marketing and Sales, and with a clear focus on the customer, the Chief Operations Officer will determine the most profitable approach to supply the customer’s demands anywhere in the world. As a member of the company’s Executive Committee, this leader will also participate in the development of the company’s vision and strategy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: • Provides oversight leadership on Global Supply Chain, Fulfillment, Best Practices, and Processes. • Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and key business leaders in establishing a comprehensive global operations and supply chain strategy, policies, and procedures. Communicate that strategy across the organization and ensure compliance. • Provide consultation to the senior leadership team and their direct reports on operational and supply chain process improvements and strategic initiatives aimed at improving service, cost and overall operating efficiencies. • Will provide leadership and collaborate in technology know-how development and new product development, ensuring that such projects are completed according to agreed upon schedules. • Develops and maintains knowledge of Industry/Market/Customer/Technology trends with Research & Development and uses this information to identify and capture technology project opportunities. • Works with Sales team to develop relationships with customers, engages customers in project activities as appropriate in order to facilitate customer’s adoption/implementation of company’s product technologies. • Has oversight responsibility for Global Operations staff, and is responsible for team and individual goal setting, employee evaluations, and for making recommendations regarding employee compensation and career development. • Evaluate additional business/product opportunities through new platforms and various alliance relationships.
Experience & Qualifications
• 20+ years hands-on experience working with specialty chemicals. • 10+ years experience in a technical/operations management role, where responsibilities included Global Operations, Technology Development, and Business Development. • Experience with high margin niche products in a batch manufacturing environment. • Experience in a heavy customer interface role that includes building relationships with customers, commercial activity, understanding working with customers, partnerships with new customer and taking existing customers to the next level. • Have provided strategic and tactical results-oriented leadership as the manufacturing operations leader of a complex, growth-oriented global manufacturing company or large division. Experience in Asia and Europe is essential. • Possess superior business acumen with an undergraduate degree and, preferably, an MBA. • Be experienced in leading teams across continental and cultural boundaries. • Possess passionate, world class capabilities with a strong focus on lean manufacturing and strategic global supply chain initiatives. • Have had success in identifying and implementing world-class business practices, including supply chain, strategic procurement and manufacturing within a substantial business. • Be able to balance a strategic focus with the constant ability to dig into the details. • Possess a thorough business understanding from demand creation through fulfillment. • Have strong cross-functional leadership experience and skills. • Have partnered with a senior leadership team in an environment of consistent growth and changing business cultures. Experience in technology and fulfillment synergies is important. • Asian business and/or language skills a plus
