The VP Finance reports directly to the President and acts as a business partner in the company, participates in all company strategic and financial planning and has direct responsibility for financial integrity and controls of the company.
Mission: As officer/board member, you are expected to deliver sustainable sales and profit growth. In your F&A role, you are responsible for more than timely and accurate financial reporting and for the management of financial assets and liabilities. You will identify and take action to mitigate risk, while recognizing that some level of business risk is essential to deliver profit growth. You will bring risk factors to the attention of the company board of directors.
The VP Finance is expected to be proactive. In this culture proactive means coming out of the office and taking the initiative to reach out to all functional areas of the company. The VP Finance makes people aware of available information and how to use the information to make better business decisions.
This position must be highly effective in customer facing situations. The VP Finance is always one of the faces of the company. And as such, must convey excellence, integrity and inspire confidence in both themselves and the company. In other words, the VP Finance is a manager of the company first and a finance person second.
General Responsibilities: The VP Finance is an officer of the company and a member of its Board of Directors. As such, his/her primary responsibility is to ensure the health and profitability of the company as a whole. Beyond responsibilities directly tied to finance and accounting, the VP Finance is expected to be knowledgeable in regards to: • Customers / target customers and their markets. • The company’s products and applications • Vendor performance • Company personnel in all departments.
Specific Duties: Financial integrity and controls of the company. This position reports to the company President. Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
• Annual strategic planning and the implementation of the plan throughout the year. • Understanding the cost drivers of the business and thereby assisting the other board members (Production, Engineering, and Sales) optimize the efficiency of their efforts. • Asset management, in particular the inventory at all stages of product completion, accounts receivable, and cash ensuring both liquidity and optimal efficiency in the utilization of assets. Supervision of accounts payable and receivable activities. • Oversight of the company’s employee benefits and payroll administration. • Supervision of the customer service activities, specifically order handling. • Ensuring the security and reliability of IT resources. • Ensuring accurate and timely submission of all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. • Managing relationships with banks, outside auditors and other outside advisors or suppliers as needed. • Maintaining financial integrity of the operation including implementation and oversight of all appropriate controls including proper segregation of duties. • Overseeing or handling personally all accounting and finance activities for the company, including general ledger, billing, A/R, A/P, Payroll, employee benefits and budgeting for the company. • Responsible for management of working capital levels including collections, credit control and overall cash flow. • Overseeing IT, tax, legal, personnel and other statutory areas to ensure optimal performance as well as compliance with regulations. • Managing and motivating finance/benefits team for peak performance. • Maintaining financial integrity and controls of any relevant branch operations. • Helping to ensure adherence to Group policies and procedures by company employees. Helping to ensure adherence to all laws and regulations by all company employees. • Analysis of both strategic and tactical activities of the company. • Assisting as a member of the board in continually reviewing the policies and procedures for the company and amending them as appropriate. • Proactively provide any ad hoc reporting required by the board to evaluate alternative strategies (including commercial and financial analyses). • Providing support to maximize company profitability and growth.
Education & Experience Requirements • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance. • MBA/CPA are a plus • 5 – 10 years experience in financial positions of increasing responsibility, preferably with a mix of private/public accounting. • Experience reporting to a non-financial manager • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with experience in management accounting and costing. • Superior interpersonal skills – must be an excellent verbal and written communicator capable of presenting complex technical issues to both peers and non-experts in a clear and effective manner. • Must exhibit unwavering integrity.
Company information Our client manufactures a portfolio of products based on gas permeable technology. This technology is used in environmental monitoring; has medical and energy applications.
• Its customers respect this company for its innovative and proprietary products and services. • This is not a turn-around AND it isn’t a maintenance situation – the President’s objective is to grow the business 20% organically and double the business in the next 3-5 years. They are in the final stages of a new product development road map that is expected to provide the products to achieve the growth objective. • The company is profitable and not dependent upon any outside funding. • This position is open due to promotion. The timeframe to fill this search is as-soon-as-possible.
