Our client is seeking Principal Accountant - Accounting Policy & Research who will be responsible for driving the resolution and documentation of technical accounting and compliance matters across company and develop and lead the implementation of Companys accounting policies, including the implementation of new accounting standards. This role will be responsible for the accounting for Companys benefit plans and accountable for Companys accounting issues resolution process, including identifying, tracking, researching and documenting technical accounting and presentation matters. This position will develop presentation materials for Companys Accounting & Disclosure Governance Committee and Audit Committee meetings and monitor and communicate status of emerging accounting guidance and its potential impact to Company. The Principal Accountant - Accounting Policy & Research will support the implementation of new accounting pronouncements and determine their impact to Company and oversee accounting and disclosure knowledge management within Company as well as be actively involved in the accounting for and forecasting of costs related to Companys corporate benefit programs (rotated among department members).
The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in accounting with CPA and a minimum six to eight years of accounting experience, specifically in researching, interpreting and applying General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to complex accounting issues. Experience in interpreting and implementing new accounting pronouncements across large organizations is essential as are strong technical accounting and research skill. Demonstrated leadership skills, strong oral and written communication skills and ability to implement processes and drive results are required as are analytical capabilities. Candidates must be detail and processes oriented and have strong project management skills. Preferred qualifications include public accounting experience, SEC regulation and reporting expertise, regulatory/utility accounting, reporting and rate making experience and experience in complex areas of accounting, including derivatives; mergers and acquisitions; accounting for regulated entities; variable interest entities; defined benefit plans; asset retirement obligations; investments; property accounting; asset impairment modeling; taxation; and contingencies. Proven experience in reviewing contracts and deals is also preferred as is an MBA in Finance, Accounting or Economics.
