Job Description
Position will report directly to the Chief Engineer for our Dozer Team. The Asst. Chief Engineer will lead a team of approximately 8 - 10 individuals, based on assignments and responsibilities delegated by the Chief Engineer. The Dozer team is comprised of project engineers, senior engineers and design engineers responsible for both new product development as well as current product maintenance. The team also includes liaison and project management of our Core Competency engineers. This individual will work in a global and cross-functional environment to support all aspects of Dozer Product Development.

Additionally, the Dozer group is responsible for technical requests, inquiries, and customer opportunities relating to the design and technology concepts for this product line.

The position is based in the Burlington, IA manufacturing plant which is also one of the main engineering (R & D) facilities within the CE Product Development organization.

The Asst. Chief Engineer will support the creation and maintenance of budgets and will collaborate with all levels of the organization (in particular, the Chief Engineer and
Platform management) to support expanding design engineering projects focusing on cost reduction, product upgrades, team building and overall business strategy.

Gain an in-depth understanding of the business as it relates to our product plans, marketing strategy, distribution channel issues, customer feedback on existing product, sales and marketing pricing issues, customer acceptance, warranty and maintenance issues.
Drive results through effective leadership and performance management and contribute to individual and team development and address performance deficiencies, when appropriate.
Gain a solid understanding of current cost reduction efforts and align new strategies to ensure our cost containment objectives co-exist with product development strategies.

MUST HAVE!!!!!

1. Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Agricultural or comparable)

2. 8 or more years of relevant engineering experience within the construction equipment industry.
Most recent 5+ years should have a focus of management responsibilities relating to off-road construction equipment & whole vehicle product engineering

3. Must possess a solid grasp of design principles (DFMEA) including, Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacturing and Design for Maintenance.

4. Experience with and working knowledge of Pro E. Teamcenter experience will be advantageous.

5. Possess exceptional design instincts and knowledge of the science of machines (e.g. how components best work in conjunction with each other to improve design simplicity, lower costs and to improve overall machine output/capabilities).

6. Dmonstrated experience and success in leading an engineering team through change.


7. Ability to generate robust new product designs while focusing on cost reduction.

8. Able to collaborate with teams throughout the organization and effectively share design breakthroughs and drive support for other improvements across the business.

9. Demonstrated experience with project planning and program/design budgets. Must be able to achieve stretch goals related to new designs and product engineering globally within budget constraints.

10. Possess an effective communication style which is candid, straight-forward, timely and genuine. Must have the ability to communicate to all levels within the organization.

11. Ability to gain acceptance, build trust and serve as a role model to the team through the exhibition of strong ethics, values and principles.

12. Individual initiative and ability to work with limited supervision.

13. Strong organizational and time management skills.

14. Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments

15. Ability to travel; domestic and international

Assets:

Masters degree in Engineering Management or Advanced Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Design Engineering is preferred.
Teamcenter experience will be advantageous.
Hands on experience operating heavy construction or agricultural equipment
