Our client is a leading global insurance company with a strong track record of profitable growth and leading market positions in the segments it serves. It is a top ten US insurance firm, a Fortune 250 organization, and recognized as one of the “America’s Most Admired” firms with about $15 billion in revenues.
Their Corporate Development function serves as an internal consulting resource playing a significant role in driving the strategic direction, capital investments, new business/product development, process improvement, and implementation programs for this top insurance organization. This elite group works directly with the senior executive team and business heads providing high levels of exposure and interaction working on high impact projects, issues, and opportunities. There is also a strong track record of promotion into significant business management roles out of this prestigious and showcased small group of talent. There is an immediate need for an AVP Metrics to join this elite internal consulting team and help build this capability as a Center of Excellence for the group. The position is reports directly to the SVP Corporate Development and located conveniently in an attractive New York City suburb.
The Assistant Vice President of Metrics will work within the Corporate Development group. Corporate Development is an internal consulting group that works with senior business unit and corporate management to develop and execute strategic initiatives for existing and new businesses.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The AVP Metrics will help build this analytical capability as a key strength of the Corporate Development group and will work on critical strategic initiatives including: •Analysis of existing business operations: oDevelopment of performance and operational metrics across business units oDesign and implementation of analytical models to determine cost of doing business oDevelopment of risk/reward models to quantify operational risks and opportunities oTrend and decomposition analyses including identification of key drivers of overall trends and their component contributions oEvaluation of performance and operational data to support growth and profitability •New market and business opportunities: •Development and analysis of industry specific performance metrics including competitive and market intelligence and dynamics •Benchmarking of service and product offerings including performance and operational measures, comparative financial analyses and projections.
The AVP Metrics will also: •Consult with internal business partners to develop metrics and analytics to measure operational business performance •Identify key drivers of financial performance •Analyze trends using statistical models and quantitative evaluation methodologies •Design strategic dashboard to monitor company’s portfolio of businesses •Improve or optimize processes based on data analysis
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
The “ideal” AVP Metrics will have the following knowledge, skills and qualifications: •Minimum of 5 years experience in performance/operational metrics and workflow management in the property casualty arena (e.g., production/sales, underwriting, claims, processing, call center). •Must possess competencies in business process design including continuous process improvement and the identification of key performance gaps and metrics. •Must possess strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills with the demonstrated ability to analyze and integrate multiple sources of data and to convey a broad array of information succinctly and accurately. •Must be a team player and possess strong critical thinking, communication, and problem solving skills. •Demonstrated advanced competency with necessary software, particularly Excel and Cognos or similar reporting tools, and a basic to intermediate knowledge of SAS and SQL is highly preferred. •Computer programming (VBA) or business analysis as well as writing SQl/DB2 queries and developing program logic (or equivalent education). •Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Quantitative Research, Operations Research or Economics with a Masters degree preferred.
